What are we up to? A whole lot of cleaning up.
For one, my mom is coming to stay with us tomorrow! She’ll be with us till Monday. I’ve been doing some extra cleaning beyond my “usual” around the house to get ready for her visit. Lots of scrubbing so far. Still more dusting (and plenty else) to do. I like having the motivation to get some extra cleaning done, it feels good. I am so looking forward to spending time with her!
Besides cleaning around the house, there is a lot of cleaning up that needs to be done outside. Last week we had a few trees cut around our place. I wrote about our decision to get two cut in this post from last year. After getting those two cut down, we went back and forth about whether or not to cut a few more. We didn’t think we could afford it, but it really needed to be done. Last week a dear man gave us an incredible deal and we were so grateful! We’ve been blocked in our “flow” around here because the trees needed to be removed before we could start building a new chicken coop and the time of our chicks’ arrival was growing closer.
It’s hard to put into words how huge this felt for us. We have so many dreams for this place and sometimes we feel obstacles to those dreams that we don’t know how we’ll get past. Trees needed to be cut. Didn’t have the money to do it. Chicken coop needed to be built. Needed trees cut first. Chicks coming soon…
Then a dear man gave us a great deal and did some trades with us and then Boom suddenly a giant obstacle was removed and now we can move forward again! The sense of relief was amazing!
There is a lot of work ahead of us, but it feels good to do.
We have more sun here than we’ve ever had before and we’re going to have more garden space!
We’re gathering firewood.
And making piles of kindling.
We’re going to be able to fill up the woodshed for next winter!
That old building down below used to be our chicken coop. The foundation is rotten and the building needs to be torn down. There are parts of it that are still good, like some metal siding and salvageable wood, so Jeff has been dismantling it for usable parts to build our new chicken coop. We don’t have the money to go buy a bunch of new supplies to build a coop, so we are getting creative in building one with recycled materials. It makes building a chicken coop a much longer process because we are dismantling another building in the process, but it needed to come down anyway and this just makes it happen faster.
The flowering plum tree just started blooming out front! It is not a type of tree that bears fruit, but is planted for the beautiful blossoms it has in in the spring. It was here when Jeff moved in and we look forward to seeing the little pink flowers every year.
It still looks sparse, but soon it will be completely covered in tiny blooms.
I spotted this wild hyacinth blooming by the front pond and showed it to Bracken and Jeff.

This is our second week without our usual Rainbow Bridge class at the Waldorf School. There is a break until Spring session starts again. We’re so busy around here that it’s actually nice to have a little break, so we can be home more while we’re getting ready for Saturday Market (starts in April), keeping our online shops stocked, building a coop, getting ready for chickens, planting in the garden, and cleaning up all the wood. But I know we’ll be quite happy to start going to our Waldorf class again when the time comes.
.
Cheers to moving forward!
