Do you remember how long we waited to get that one ripe lemon on our lemon tree last year? Over a year! We heard from friends who grow lemons in these parts that the first harvest can take quite awhile. This year we didn’t have to wait so long, thankfully. (One year, after all, does take quite a bit of patience for a single lemon!) We just harvested one lemon last week and we have more on the way, which we have been very happy about. We have meyer lemons and they smell… floral. I think that’s the best way to describe it. I love the smell. They are more sweet and a bit less tart than other kinds of lemons. I think we could have harvested ours a bit sooner, we’ll get the hang of it as we harvest more lemons. Our beloved lemon tree lives on our front porch for part of the year and out in the garden during the warmer months. I wanted to capture the first lemon we harvested this year (it is special, after all) and we got pictures of each one of us holding it. In other areas, growing lemons may not be all that exciting… but for us, being here in Oregon, we’re pretty darn excited about being able to grow lemons!
