The story of this hat started last summer when I got this yarn (Cormo Sport) from Sincere Sheep, at the Black Sheep Gathering. (Which explains the calendula flowers that were blooming in the garden, that I stuck in the picture with the yarn.) Brooke, of Sincere Sheep, dyes all her yarn with natural dyes and the shades she gets are just breathtaking. The color of the yarn I chose reminded me of my sister because she loves blues and greens and this yarn had both hues in it (hard to tell in some of the pictures.) I looked for hat patterns that would work with that yarn and stumbled upon Stax, by Carina Spencer. It was beautiful and feminine, yet looked comfortable and relaxed, the perfect blend for my sister. The pattern was interesting and created such a fun effect on the hat. (You can find my Ravelry notes here.)
I had intended to finish the hat in time for her birthday in November, but when she was visiting Holiday Market had begun and Jeff had his surgery and things were pretty chaotic for us, so I didn’t get it finished. I thought I might get a chance to finish it for Christmas, but I ended up not getting the opportunity to finish it until our busy Holiday Market was over. At that point I knew I was going to see her in Florida in February, so instead of mailing it to her, I gave it to her in person when we saw each other. It’s fun anyway to receive gifts when it’s not a birthday or a holiday, just out of the blue. I gave it to her on the hottest day we were in Florida, as we were headed to the beach in 80 degree weather, when she would most certainly not be in need of a wool hat. The timing was comical to me, but it wasn’t long before she put the hat to use.

I can’t believe what a skilled knitter you are! You always amaze me at the patterns you pull off! Your sister looks gorgeous in that hat! Is this the same yarn you used for my hat? If so I can feel the comfort of her hat. We need a knitting party!!

Thanks Erica! It took me a long time to tackle any tricky patterns and I’m still stumbling along in projects even after all these years of knitting (like the sweater I’m working on right now.) I’ve made so many mistakes in my projects which has been the best teacher. The yarn I used for her hat is not the same as yours, but very similar color. (The rest of the yarn from your hat I’ve been saving for a hat for me.) 🙂 Yes, we do need a knitting party!! I’ve been missing you like crazy!

I meant to ask you about your blocking contraption. I am pretty sure you blogged about it some time ago, but I can’t find it. Looks like a pretty useful tool.
Wishing you and yours a beautiful weekend-♡ Daniela
