This is during Bree’s birth in the morning light. Sally’s babies (born a few hours before) were surrounding her. The second baby is emerging here.
This is Sally Sue’s doe Flossy, on her second day of life. She is very adventurous.
Sally Sue nursing Flossy.
Baby Faun soon after her birth. We named her Faun because she looked just like a baby deer when she came out. Below are Bree’s triplets.
What a joyful time it has been here! On Thursday, April 23, Jeff woke up at 3:33 am and heard Sally in the goat house & had a feeling she was in labor. First thing in the morning, I went down to the goat house, still wearing my pajamas. We had been checking on them for days, knowing they were due any time. I walked in the goat house and there were three fuzzy newborns, already licked clean! Sally Sue had given birth to Triplets!! Jeff was in the woodshed, gathering wood to start the morning fire & hollered down and asked if we had any babies yet. “Yes we do!” I happily exclaimed. He came down & we saw that Sally was not letting them nurse. Her teats were hard and extremely full, probably painful for her. We brought her to the milking stand to release a tiny bit of pressure. Then brought the babies to her and showed them where to nurse. At first she wouldn’t let them, but in no time they all got the hang off it and helped her make good use of all that milk. She seemed to enjoy it as much as they did.

While this was happening, Bree was in the yard making noises and she is normally very quiet. I knew her labor was beginning. She came in the goat house and was licking Sally’s babies and mothering them. She began eating Sally’s afterbirth, then layed down in the straw and started making deep pushing sounds. Jeff and I were sitting in the straw a few feet from her, being very quiet and calm. Bree licked Sally’s babies while she pushed. I was so grateful to experience her birth, with all of my heart I had wanted to be there for it. Watching Bree’s birth was the most Sacred experience of my life. I watched in awe as the first baby emerged, what a miracle to behold! Then a second baby started coming out! Twins? Can it be? At this time our friend Star arrived to help and got to watch the second baby being born. Bree was licking them clean and I helped wipe slime off their mouths so they could breathe. Then Bree stood up and began pushing again, we thought her afterbirth was coming out, but wait, a third baby!! Triplets!! We watched while Bree licked them clean and ate her afterbirth, being the wise Mama she is.
We got to watch the babies get up on their wobbly legs and take their first steps. We watched their clumsy attempts to nurse in all the funniest places. We watched the ring of milk around their happy little faces & their tails wagging in delight. We watched them curl up in the warm sunshine and play with each other. It will always be one of my favorite days of my life!
We had Two sets of Triplets born on the 23rd, we love number coincidences! ….And it all began at 3:33.. =)
Sally & Bree both gave birth to one buck & two does. Bree’s buck is going to our good friends to live with their beautiful angel goats. We are looking for a loving home for Sally’s buckling, we are not going to keep any bucks this year. We named Bree’s does Faun (because she looks just like a baby deer, she has the cutest ears!) and Lucy (named after her Father because she looks just like him!) We named Sally’s does Flossy (named by my Mother who well deserved naming a baby after her incredible enthusiasm and patient waiting for the babies to arrive) =) and Maple (the color of Maple syrup and oh so sweet!) So Faun, Lucy, Flossy and Maple are settling in with their brothers and mamas, frollicking, playing and being happy goats.

Sometimes when I watch them, I feel like my heart is going to burst. We feel so blessed!
