We had some wonderful visitors this weekend! My sister Rachelle & her two friends, Carrie & Pete, came down to visit from Seattle. They arrived late Friday night & on Saturday morning we ate a delicious breakfast and headed outside to hang out with the goats. When we sit down, the baby goats like to climb on us like mountains and play king of the hill. They were really entertaining and their personalities come out more & more the older they get. Flossy gets more rambunctious, Faun gets a little less shy, Lucy gets even more entertaining (if that’s possible), and Bree’s little buck remains as cuddly as ever!
What is now the chicken coop, was the previous goat house & we still had some things to move over, prepare & clear out of the yard before the chicks could come out into the big outdoors.
We hauled some tree stumps into the new goat yard and they started climbing & playing on them pretty quick! We also hauled in some stairs they love to climb & Reiki the cat has been enjoying those. As we were doing this, it was also clearing out the chicken yard. The chicks have been in the chicken coop & our project for this weekend was to get their yard ready so they could start going outside during the day. We tore down a temporary addition that we didn’t need anymore so we can use the materials for our next building project. We used the old straw to cover all the muddy spots in the yard (which was pretty much the whole thing after the goats had been there.) The chicken yard is separated into two sections. We are letting one section regenerate for a while before the chicks go in there. The land needs it after the goats have been there for a little while. 🙂
We put up chicken wire all along the bottom of the fencing so they couldn’t get out, since they are still pretty small. On Saturday night, after our day of work, we let the chicks out in their yard for the first time! They have been enjoying their yard ever since! Now we let them out in the morning, but every night we close the door to the chicken coop and they are all safe & cozy at night. I love seeing all the variance in the flock. So many different colors!
The cherry on top of the weekend was going to my favorite beach on Sunday, the Hobbit Beach! It’s not too far from where we live. You take a beautiful hiking trail to get there, called The Hobbit Trail. It’s covered in moss & looks like you will see a hobbit at any moment. You can hear the ocean as you walk, and finally, after bending over in a little tunnel the perfect size for hobbits, you see the beautiful blue ocean! The day was gorgeous and perfect for the beach! It felt so invigorating & the air was so fresh!
Then they headed back to Seattle, and I came home feeling invigorated from the ocean, and yet a little exhausted, but very content. It was amazing how much we got done with some extra hands around here! When I said that to my dad he said “Many hands make light work!” Yep, that is true.
