This morning we headed out bright and early to drive down the road, 20 miles, to our neighbor’s farm. They have an Organic Blueberry farm surrounded by mountains. In the early morning there was still dew covering the plants, sunlight shining through the trees and the sound of a rooster on a nearby farm. I love picking here, it is so peaceful. Every time I go Blueberry picking I know it’s good for the soul.
We headed out with our buckets, the field was recently opened for u-pick, the berries were just starting to get ripe. These last few hot, sunny days have sweetened the berries up. I loved the background music of the rooster, the baa-ing sheep, the tiny bearded goats and the birds diving down for some blueberry treats.
We picked for an hour and a half before the sun started getting too hot, so we headed in to get weighed up. He charges $1.80 for u-pick and $2.50 for pre-picked berries. We made sure to head to his farm early this year because last year a bunch of companies put in big orders and he started running out early.
We said goodbye to the friendly llama Patches and laughed as the sheep was trying to eat all his food. I’m sure we’ll be back again and again, enjoying the atmosphere and the delicious berries!
