Today we went to Sacred Waters Birthing Center in Eugene for the first time. We showed up for our appointment with our midwife, Anita, and discovered that a baby had just been born in a car on their way to the birthing center- so Anita was busy. They asked if we could reschedule, but then offered for us to meet with the other midwife, Erin. Erin gave us a tour of the facility. Then we went upstairs and talked over tea. Erin is so sweet. She really took her time with us, I could tell that she was not in a hurry at all and patiently listened to all our questions. I loved how attentive she was when she listened to us. When we mentioned we had goats, we discovered a passion we share. Erin used to have goats and wants to have them again someday. It’s amazing the connection you can find with other goat lovers. She told us how important diet is right now while the baby is forming it’s organs. I told her that Jeff and I are really into the ‘Nourishing Traditions’ cookbook and her eyes lit up. She said “me too, it’s my bible!”
Today was our first visit, the time when we see the center and decide if we want to have our care through the birthing center or not. We both knew. We didn’t even need to go home and discuss it. It felt right. So we scheduled our next appointment, which will be our first “official” visit where we start filling out paperwork and getting the ball rolling. We got to meet Anita on our way out and immediately liked her as well. We feel so grateful to have a birthing center like this in our area. This is exactly the kind of care we want. We love all the people we’ve met so far. We feel that we are in very good hands…

Thanks Lara! Several of our good friends have had Anita as their midwife and go on and on about how wonderful she is. Do you know her?

I didn’t even make the connection before that it was Sacred Waters you picked as your birthing center and that this Anita was your midwife. This is wonderful! You and Jeff are so on the right track! I wish that every woman embarked on the journey of pregnancy and childbirth with as much intention as you! Right on Mamma!
