It's that time of year when the list of outdoor projects to complete- before our cold and rainy season hits- is long. If you look at the list all at once you can go cross eyed. I find it best to just keep moving... and then... bit by bit... the list gets shorter. :)

We had some lettuce bolting, and a big lettuce harvest was in order. When the lettuce goes to seed, it can start tasting a bit bitter. My taste buds have changed so much over the years, as I transitioned from processed food to eating straight out of the garden. At one point in time I would not have been much of a fan, but now I enjoy the occasional bitter greens and even find myself craving them.

I came across a caterpillar 🐛 in the garden that was eating a calendula flower. I'm not sure why, but I found it so funny that the caterpillar poops were bright orange from eating the calendula. Good to find humor wherever we can, right?

It can start with a few potted plants... some herbs in a windowsill... and before you know it you are looking for every bit of space where you can plant something!

Watching a tiny seed grow... it's magic. 🌱

Hi there! I'm Taryn. My son took this picture of me in the garden last year. I don't show my face here all that often, mostly sharing photos of the beauty in nature, the garden, and our family's woodworking.

You'll notice that most of the pictures I take are outside. One of the best things I have ever done for my well being has been to make a point to spend time outdoors every single day. Being in nature feeds my spirit, and being out there every day keeps me moving, noticing, and connecting.

It humbles me again and again to see such beauty in the simplest things right outside our doors, if we only pause and notice.

What inspires you to step outside?

Hiking with friends? Walking your dog? Working in the garden? Searching for rocks and shells at the beach? Watching the light reflecting on the water? Meals with family in the yard? Drinking tea and noticing the changing sky? Looking for mushrooms?

Whatever it is that inspires us to get out there, let's do it as often as we're able to. There are plenty of things that need doing indoors each day (I know the list can be long!), but even short breaks outside can be so refreshing. Our souls are constantly calling us to get outdoors and connect with nature, cheers to answering that call whenever possible! ❤

How cool is that?

Take a beautiful wood. And then when it's spalted? The spalting adds a whole new beauty of color and designs to the wood, it's incredible what the spalting can create.

I love the variety of maple and beech spalted earrings that we are offering in the shop right now. Every single pair has a beauty all it's own!

When woodworkers find spalted wood that has the amazing designs, but is at the happy point before the wood has decomposed away- it's quite a treasure!
