Yesterday was a day full of unexpected treasure. We had such a fun day at Saturday Market. We got our booth all set up early. I headed over to the Farmer’s Market first thing. I picked out trade with our friends there, which I look forward to every week. I feel like skipping with joy when I have my huge bag of fresh vegetables in hand. It’s a good thing I went early because by the end of the day, they sold out of a bunch of stuff. Then I searched the market for asparagus, since it’s the season for it and it was sounding so good to me. I found one booth at the Farmer’s Market that had it and I was so excited. I headed back to our booth to get my purse. I was happy to get some asparagus before it all sold out.
Then I discovered a booth that was selling frozen blueberries. You all remember my blueberry craving from last week. Jeff and I harvest lots of blueberries every year and store them in the freezer. We’ve been out for awhile. Last week we went to our neighbor’s blueberry farm to buy some frozen blueberries and they were all sold out! And this pregnant woman has not been able to get them out of her head. So I decided to buy a small bag of them even though I had no cooler to keep them cold for the day. I figured we’d just start eating them, and we did! (I enjoyed every minute of it, but then as my lips and teeth got stained blue I was concerned that I was going to start scaring away customers…) 🙂
And finally I treated myself to some dried figs from a local farm, which I had never tried before. They were incredible! Yum! It’s hard to stop eating them. So I was feeling overflowing with goodies and that was only the beginning of the day.
The weather was sunny and beautiful for most of the day. We saw lots of market friends and felt so many open hearts reaching out to us. We had good sales, with lots of people appreciating everything in our booth. That always makes me so happy because I know how much energy Jeff pours into creating everything and even though he has a hard time accepting compliments, he loves knowing that his creations bring people joy.
Our friends at the food court that we trade with made a special batch of tempeh just for me and it was so yummy. I felt so special as I snacked on the little morsels.
Then Kim came by and said that she wanted to choose us for ‘beautiful booth of the month.’ We were delighted! Another unexpected treasure to our day! She took pictures of our booth and we were so happy.
By the end of the day, we were feeling full, content and started to feel a little sleepy. At 5 o’clock we started packing up our booth to head home. Then Sue, a fellow marketeer, stopped by our booth and asked if we wanted to trade. That really topped off our day! We do trades with Sue every Holiday Market for her beautiful beeswax candles. Have I mentioned that I LOVE beeswax candles? The last Saturday Market of every month she brings a box of her ‘seconds’ that she has for sale. This was the wonderful box that I picked our trade from. (If you happened to see me at the end of the day you probably witnessed me cradling the bag of candles in my arms like a precious baby.)
And then our truck was filled with treasure and we drove home through the mountains.

dw- Trading is so fun and trading possibilities are endless. You can babysit, mow someone’s yard, bake something in exchange for any number of things. All it takes to trade is creativity and willingness.
It would be so fun if you could visit us at Eugene Saturday Market sometime! We would love to meet you!
Lara- Yes, please visit us at market! That would be soo fun! 🙂

That sounds amazing! I wish I had things I could trade with. What a wonderful concept! If I’m ever down your way on a Saturday I would be thrilled to come check out the market. We love our Farmer’s Market here in Hillsboro too.
