When our family headed back home today, Jeff and I went out to the garden. A garden can be transformed in a few hours and today it was. We weeded so much in the garden beds, that we brought several wheelbarrow loads down to the chickens, who were very happy to say the least. We planted all the summer squash (zucchini and patty pan) in the ground. Jeff spread compost around a bunch of garden beds. He planted chamomile, wormwood, firmament flowers, two types of cabbage, broccoli, and purple cape cauliflower. I sat and pulled up weeds in a kind of silent meditation, admiring the bright yellow irises glowing in the overcast light. The warm rain felt blissful. There is something so peaceful about gardening in the rain. We finally came inside, but today I was enjoying being in the garden so much I felt like I could have stayed out there forever.
