We love making buttons in all different shapes, sizes, and woods. These ones in reclaimed mahogany are so fun!

I love the shape of them, the gorgeous red tinted hue, and incredible grain in the wood. They are so smooth, and I love feeling the rounded curves, and tilting them in the light to admire the luminescent sheen of the wood.

The reclaimed mahogany has a neat story behind it. The wood came from a JC Penney store in Seattle that was built in the 1930's. When they tore out the wood floors, these pieces were salvaged. We love using reclaimed wood and bringing new life to things!

If you were a bird, would you think these were strawberries? 🍓

Jeff and B heard about painting rocks to look like strawberries. The idea behind it being that the birds would peck them, discover they were not tasty (and not enjoyable to peck at), and leave some of the other strawberries alone.

Would it help? What the heck? Why not give it a try?

Always glad for any excuse to be making something, B painted stones to look like strawberries, and then even fashioned stems for them with his 3D pen. Pretty awesome.

And you know what? We actually did notice far less damage on our strawberries in the garden from birds this year!

If you're looking for some cozy projects to work on in the upcoming colder months, why not paint some stone strawberries in preparation for next year's garden season?

If you crouch beneath the zucchini plants, it's like a little jungle under there... a whole other world underneath the canopy of leaves.

I've always marveled at the stunning beauty of squash blossoms. When the sun shines through them, and the yellow is illuminated, what a bright summer sight they are.

This picture was taken at the end of July, when the zucchini plants were first getting going in our garden. Now the zucchini has been winding down. You'd think I would have had my fill of zucchini by now, but I love it and would be quite content to keep on eating lots of it.

When I was growing up, I remember my grandpa worki

When I was growing up, I remember my grandpa working with black walnut and oak wood. (The smell of black walnut still transports me to his woodshop all these years later.)

When I met Jeff and he was working with wood, there were some woods that were familiar to me- like maple and black walnut. One that was completely new to me (and I hadn't even heard of before) was Mountain Mahogany wood.

Mountain Mahogany is one of the densest woods among trees native to the United States. It's density makes it feel especially smooth (and take such a shine) after all the sanding and polishing Jeff does.

Not only do I love feeling the smooth wood in my fingers once Jeff has worked his magic on it, Mountain Mahogany wood is gorgeous. ✨
The colors can have such a wide range and we think some pieces look like sunsets over the desert.

The Mountain Mahogany wood we work with came from a woodworking friend who drove along at just the right time to save the wood. A power company had cut the tree down from under the lines and were going to put the wood in the chipper. Thankfully, the wood was saved to be made into beautiful things instead.

We have some seriously beautiful earrings in Mountain Mahogany wood in the shop right now. I have a pair that are my absolute favorite earrings and I wear them all the time.
