Today I’m 5 months and 1 week pregnant (21 weeks.)
Here’s what this week’s e-mail said:
“Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long- the length of a carrot.”
It also said that I may soon feel like the baby is practicing martial arts as their initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. Yes, that’s exactly what it feels like- this is one active baby these days! It also said I might notice a pattern to the activity, which is true.
I’ve been feeling really good. My biggest food craving lately is still- surprise- avocados. I have turned into an avocado fanatic and am in shock that I never paid them any attention (my entire life) until very recently. I want to eat avocados for every meal and I celebrate when I find them on sale at the store. I’ve also been craving raw aged goat cheddar cheese. The other night I made scrambled eggs for dinner with sauteed zucchini and topped it with shredded raw aged goat cheddar cheese and chunks of avocado. I cannot even tell you how good it tasted to me at the time. It was the first time I ever had avocado on scrambled eggs and it was delicious.
I’m also craving fresh fruit and our homemade goat’s milk kefir (so excited to get goat’s milk again soon!) I’m loving fresh foods and craving more fermented foods. So grateful that I’ve been enjoying food and eating so much throughout this pregnancy.
And it shows- this belly sure is getting big!

There is something to be said for jobs that pay the bills!! 🙂 And I bet you are such a blessing there because you seem like you would be so friendly and wonderful working with people. I bet you brighten the place up every day.
I love hearing about your future dreams. Looks like you are already creating them on a smaller scale where you are at right now.
I know we’ll do a good job too. Glad to know you. 🙂

I manage a medical office, have been there since just after I graduated high school. I don’t love it and just sort of fell into it as a profession, but remind myself all the time that it pays the bills, and someday my hard work will pay off. Then, we’ll be able to realize our dream of a small bit of land in the woods where we can garden and hopefully have some farm animals. I can’t even have chickens here- the zoning board won’t budge.
You’re right about it all being such a miracle. We are responsible for not only the safe carrying and delivery of a brand new human being, but the care and raising of that little one as well. There is so much we’ll get to teach and share about this world! I know we’ll do a good job.
Love to you, and to baby carrot (mine’s now a lemon, 14 weeks today!)

Oh that is lucky, it will save you lots of money! What is your job?
I like to wonder what our baby will be like too. Isn’t it amazing that there is a living being growing inside us? We are actually going to have another member in our families- wow! That’s hard for me to fathom, it’s such a miracle!
Hope you have a great weekend!
Lots of Love, Taryn

Definitely having trouble fitting into my jeans! I’m lucky- for work I wear scrubs which have a drawstring, so I’ve been fine so far and won’t have to get a whole new professional wardrobe. I’ll just switch to size medium pants when the small ones don’t fit anymore. I’m also pretty handy with a sewing machine, so I’ll be able to modify clothes to fit.
Time is definitely flying by- It seems like just yesterday I found out we were expecting. Now, I’m daydreaming about what baby will look like. My blue eyes, his brown curly hair? What a surprise it will be!

Lol, I’ve heard that saying before, it’s hilarious. Thanks for reminding me of it.
Are some of your clothes starting to fit tighter? My stretchy clothes are becoming my favorites. 🙂
Wow, a watermelon- amazing to think my belly is gonna get so big.
The time sure seems to be flying by! Do you feel that way too?

I think that’s the best thing about zucchini- it starts off tiny and then all of a sudden you have too many and you’re leaving them on neighbor’s porches when they aren’t looking! They have a saying in New Hampshire where my parents live (and maybe in all farm communities) that you never leave your car unlocked in the summer, not because of potential break-ins but because people will leave zucchini and other unwanted produce when you’re not watching!
Keep growing, carrot baby. You’ve got to be a watermelon before you’re ready to come out! 🙂
Boy, do I have a long way to go until that point…

I’m a huge milk lover too! mmmmmm mmm! 🙂
I love growing zucchini because it’s so prolific! Right now the zucchini we are enjoying is from the farmers market (they grow it in a greenhouse.) Our zucchini is still tiny and a ways off from producing.
Little carrot baby says hello to little shrimp baby!! 🙂

Hooray for your carrot baby! I’m so glad you’re doing well, and eating well 🙂 Still no cravings for me, but I have really been enjoying huge glasses of milk. I’ve always loved milk, but now I feel like I could drink the whole gallon some days.
Eggs with zucchini and cheese sounds amazing, and I hope my little zucchini plants make it so I’ll have fresh homegrown veggies too!
(I’m at 13 weeks, and my baby is a shrimp!)
