Jeff and I love to give homemade gifts. Recently I felt inspired to start a new category on this blog for Homemade Gift Ideas. It’s always fun to have fresh ideas for gift giving.
The first one I’d like to mention is so simple- lavender bundles.
Every year we harvest the lavender in our garden (I leave some for the bees too because they love it so much) and I hang it in bundles to dry. These make wonderful gifts. This gift idea is nothing fancy- it’s something anyone can do and something so many people love. They look beautiful in a gift basket and if you are sending a package in the mail- your loved ones will be delighted by the delicious smell when they open it up!
To me, small, simple gifts given with love are so meaningful.
(For those who are major Lavender Lovers (you can tell I am by all the lavender around our home) you might enjoy our friend Lara’s blog post about touring local lavender farms.)
What are your favorite homemade gifts to give and to receive?

Homemade gifts are the best gifts! I’ve recently started making my own vanilla extract, and it’s an amazing gift, too. Take 2 vanilla beans and slice them lengthwise, place in a glass bottle or jar and add 1 cup vodka or brandy. Let sit in a cool dark place for 6 weeks or so, shaking every couple of days. Strain out the beans (or even leave them in for a unique looking gift), and there you go. I think it is much more flavorful than store bought extract, and it’s a yummy addition to baked goods, or even your oatmeal. 🙂
