Over the river and through the woods to Lara’s house we go!
Last week Bracken and I went on an adventure to our dear friend Lara’s house. I entered their farmhouse and was greeted with a hearty hug, a warm cozy fire, gentle folk music playing in the background, and the scent of homemade lavender incense mixed with something delicious coming from the area of the oven. All of which fed my spirit and made me feel grounded, soothed and relaxed. It created a deep feeling of peacefulness and all felt right in the world in this sweet space. The rich, vibrant colors on the walls of their home are a real gift on a rainy day in the middle of winter. (I just love their farmhouse!)
What do I love about visiting Lara?
I love that it feels like we are pioneers and I take my covered wagon from the mountains and forest to visit her in the open valley. We feel like a couple of pioneer women who venture out from their homesteads and busy lives for friendship, companionship and the sharing of gifts. (Can you tell we both like to read pioneer books?) We drink tea (this time it was nettles and ginger.) We have feasts, sharing all the bounty we stored away for the winter. We chat about things like seeds. We look out the window and watch one of her chickens trying to break into the garden.
What I love about visiting Lara’s is that I feel comfortable there. I feel welcome. It feels like a home away from home. Their home is filled with a joyous atmosphere. Their home feels like a deeply nourishing place (and I’m sure that has a lot to do with the friendship!) Their family is festive and they actually decorate for the holidays (which I rarely do, but aspire to.)
We had a very fun day.
It was Lara and her daughter Rosemary, and Bracken and I.
Lara takes such beautiful pictures and I had asked her to take some. Here are some from our day.
Rosemary had the idea for us to all wear hats for a fun picture
Pure sweetness
Can you tell how much she adores him?
Copying Bracken and sticking out our tongues
My heart feels so light after our visits. I feel renewed and full of inspiration and my heart knows that this is what true friendships are all about.
Lara has a warm, loving heart and is very generous. I love that we can share our joys and enthusiasm, and support each other to follow our hearts and build our dreams. I’m so grateful to have her as a friend. (Lara- Thanks for the magical day, it was just what my heart needed.)
And I’m so grateful for all the soul-nurturing friendships I have in my life. I love having friends of all ages, from all different places- rich in fresh perspectives and culture. I learn and grow from each one and my world is expanded in a beautiful way. Each friendship is a gift I cherish. And I’m grateful for the ones yet to come.
Which friendships in your life nourish your spirit?

IT SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE THE KIND OF DAY THAT I TOO WOULD LOVE. KINDRED SPIRITS NO MATTER THE AGE DIFFERENCE. BESIDES I LOVE PIONEER BOOKS TOO.

What a wonderful day! And what a beautiful homestead-home Lara has! I know what you mean about a heart-nourishing space — I have a friend/neighbor, Darlene, whose house is so comfortable and healing. I walk in there and just breathe a big sigh of relief!
