It’s quiet tonight. The only sounds I hear are the occasional crackling of the woodstove downstairs, frog song from time to time in the front pond, and Bracken’s breathing. Bracken fell asleep nursing and is cradled in one arm while I write this with the other. This is the time of day for gentleness and reflection. The time of day when I look at my life and feel immense gratitude for it all. For the love and support from those who love me, for the new friendships being made, for guidance and inspirations, for making a living from home, for…. everything. Lately, Jeff and I have been dreaming together- sharing our ideas of what we want to create here. Some dreams are for this year- seeds for the garden, more blueberry plants in the ground, ducklings, a new chicken coop, tearing down some old structures. Other dreams are farther down the road- building our dream home with our own hands. I love to think of these things and smile. In the midst of dreaming, I am in love with our life right now. In this moment, my heart is content and happy. In the quiet, peace permeates.
Do you seek quiet solitude in your life? In the quiet, do you feel immense gratitude pouring in and feel how truly blessed you are? You are.

Woops…’chooks’ is Aussie-speak for chickens. π And it’s a pleasure to ‘meet’ you and your dear family.
Melissa- How wonderful that we were sharing a similar moment across the globe. π
What are chooks? I love hearing about your life. Thanks for your comment!
Louise- Thank you so much for your sweet message!
Fiona- When I find that fear and worry are creeping in too much, I like to go outside and move my body to “shake it all out.” It works great! π I agree about gratitude. It’s the foundation of a good life.
Laura- Thanks!
Molly- Thanks! I checked it out. Her art is amazing!
Lovely to hear from you all!
This is so lovely.
Here’s a gift for you and Jeff, hope you enjoy it, a blog I just recently found: http://moonlightandhares.blogspot.com/
Love and happy days π
Lovely post. Thanks for adding peace to my day.
Thank you Taryn for such a beautiful, grounding, inspiring post. I, too, seek quiet solitude, but I often find I’m chased by noisy fiends known as fear and worry. I find that cultivating gratitude for all things wonderful in my life helps bring me to a place of peace and simple bliss — the next step is working this into my everyday. Thanks for sharing this moment. xo
What a beautiful post!
Having dreams about the future is good. What’s even better is that you’re nt forgetting to live in the now and just be.
Hoping that all your dreams come true!

Dear Taryn,
How beautifully you write, but then it reflects your life too. As I was reading your thoughts, I was sitting here in a room lit by a lamp, my dog gently snoring and the frogs are singing for rain outside. I live way down in the south of Tasmania. My husband, two children and myself have goats, chooks, a large vegie garden and our dog. I homeschool my children, we live simply and fairly quietly. I’m telling you this because I really like reading your blog and it’s so lovely to connect with how you’ve expressed your own hopes and dreams.
Keep on shining.
