A great earth friendly idea is to buy in bulk!
Plus, you can save money at the same time. Jeff and I buy organic beans in bulk. Recently, we bought 25 lbs. of organic lentils. It’s so nice to have them on hand in the pantry whenever we need some. And thinking of all the packaging it saves when we purchase them that way makes me smile. It feels good to keep finding more ways to lessen our impact on the earth.
What are your favorite food items to buy in bulk?
Katharine- I love not worrying about having to go to the grocery store to get things too. It’s great!
Kris- That’s awesome you buy so much in bulk! I didn’t even know you could buy honey by the gallon. Jeff used to raise bees, but we had issues with bears. We are hoping to raise them again at some point. I’m thinking of that homegrown honey now… mmm!
I’ve never worked with plantain before, but I hear so many good things about it.
So nice to hear from you!
Hi Taryn, There are a bunch of us here that just got our grain order from last year. I had ordered 425 pounds of whole wheat berries and 25 pounds of brown rice and 25 pounds of pinto beans. That should last us a few years. Well, the wheat will. I have an old chest freezer out in the “cat room” and I store most of the wheat out there. It’s a good thing we have that old thing. I also store most of the wheat that I am using in 5 gallon buckets with good tight lids. I buy honey by the gallons also. I so want my own bees some day. I saw some honey bees the other day in my dandelions. I was so happy to see them again.
I have been gathering plantain today to make some tinctures and astringents for the spring and summer bee season.
Definitely rice. I buy the heaviest bags I can find! It’s also nice buying in bulk because you don’t have to think about getting that item again for sometimes months (especially me, just living alone).
