Firstly, Happy Mother’s Day to all you mamas out there!
I am loving and appreciating my mom today and all the nurturance, love, and care she has given me throughout my life. My gratitude has deepened since becoming a mama myself because I realize how much energy it takes to give so much of yourself each and every day. This is my first Mother’s Day as a mom and what a good feeling that is. It makes my heart hum. I feel blessed to be Bracken’s mama.

Also, inspiration has come through for a new tradition on Wooly Moss Roots. I love heartfelt traditions. So I decided to begin one here, Gratitude Sunday. Each Sunday, I’ll post a list of things I’m grateful for from that week, that day, that moment, or in my life in general. So often we are rushing and working to get what we want, that we can overlook all that we are blessed with in our lives right now. The list might be one thing, it might be twenty one, but it’s a grateful heart that matters. Sunday is a good, quiet day, to reflect on the week before and life as a whole and appreciate all good things.
In that spirit, here’s my list today:
-Waking up to Bracken’s smile and to Jeff saying “Happy Mother’s Day!”
-My first Mother’s Day as a mama.
-A downpour this morning that made our home all the cozier and the woodstove all the more welcome.
-Discovering that Jeff wrote a post dedicated to me for Mother’s Day and it brought tears to my eyes. I love that husband-o-mine.
-A family nap. Praise be to naps!
-Local, pork steak with breakfast that had so much flavor it was unreal.
-Sunshine later in the day, that made the mountains look so beautiful.
-Bracken finally nursing and falling asleep, when he was frustrated from teething. (It’s so hard when he’s uncomfortable and there’s nothing I can do. When sleep brings him peace, it is a relief.)
-A dry diaper for a lot of the day because I took Bracken to the potty regularly and he always went.
-Jeff and I making up a silly song called ‘bare butt baby.’ We really enjoy making up silly songs together.

I love readings about gratitude – its so contagious! I start thinking how grateful I am for reading such goodness and then all the other things I am grateful for – some mundane and small, some big and energetic and hard to put into words. But I love the idea of gratitude sunday – I will join you next week 🙂

I’m grateful (and so are the goats) that my partner and I mucked out the winter’s deep-litter bedding from the goat barn.
Working hard together outside on a beautiful day, creating next year’s garden fertilizer, then collapsing together on the couch for a bowl of “Mystery Chicken” soup (his name was “Mystery) – such satisfaction!
And though it’s Monday now, it comes back as I read “To the Woods” by Evelyn Searle Hess, the story of a 50-something couple who decided to leave their middle-life class in Eugene to live in the Coast Range. The line that did it?
“Compost has brought me closer to the idea of reincarnation than religion ever did.”
