Above is Bracken and I in our booth at market yesterday. Yep, that’s a carrot I’m holding there. Bracken’s new favorite thing to chew on are farmer’s market carrots. He’s a sleepy thing there.
So I sat down to write this Gratitude Sunday post. I wondered what I have felt grateful for over the past week. Last week had its challenges and it had it’s blessings. But when you look for the blessings in the challenges, well, it all transforms into blessings, even if it takes a while before we see them. Yesterday we went to market and met another challenge- we forgot essential components to set up our booth! So Jeff had to run to the hardware store. We did get set up, with a big sigh of relief. Jeff was still in pain, but managed to be oh-so-wonderful (how? beats me.)
Then came what I am most grateful for this past week.
Community.
A day filled with community lifted our Spirits. Kim came over and gave us a few prints of the picture she had taken of us last weekend (from Friday’s this moment post.) It meant so much to us. Sheila was back at market and brought us a handwoven willow soap dish (she knows I love willow.) Christelle brought us a smile as always. We saw so many friends. We talked. We laughed. We traded at farmer’s market. We filled our basket of abundance with vegetables of all kinds and colors, and mushrooms. We drank kombucha and dined on fresh, local fruit and market fare. At the end of the day, we traded for flats of raspberries and strawberries to fill up our freezer for winter. We left market and went to a wedding celebration of our dear neighbors, Teri and Peter (who we recently met through this blog, how funny is that?) We were happy to celebrate such a beautiful couple who have so much love for each other (we could see it the first time we ever met them.) We were delighted to see other friends and neighbors there. We sat with the Deck Family (yep, from Deck Family Farm, that I’m always talking about on here.) As they loved up Bracken, I realized that each of them had a role in growing him, by providing the food with the hard work of their hands, that nourished me throughout the pregnancy and now, while he drinks my milk. It was a beautiful feeling. Enjoying good food. Good friends. Good times. I felt grateful for summer, for local farms, for a day to refresh us, for being alive. Mostly, I felt grateful for Community and the love people share with each other.
It’s the most beautiful thing in the world.
What is your heart feeling grateful for from the past week?

I have been following your beautiful words for awhile now and I want to tell you that you never fail to uplift and inspire me. We live similar lives (new baby/artist/life in the woods, etc) and reading your insights often lets me know that I am not alone. Thank you for your sunny outlook and for being real in the best kind of way. I look forward to every post! Much love! xoxo Lily

Hi Taryn! What a beautiful picture of you and Bracken, he’s such a beautiful boy!
I made a list too. I’ve also started to make a list as often as I remember in a little note book – it is such a wonderful way to see the world, thanks for the inspiration x
