This afternoon we were all ready for market tomorrow. The blueberries down the road were calling to me and I really wanted to visit Bree, Faun and Fennel. It was a hot day and an afternoon blueberry farm visit sounded like just the thing.
There wasn’t much picking yet, they said the berries were very tart, but after this hot and sunny weekend they’d be sweet and ready for the picking.
Bracken and I went while Jeff got things done around the house. I needed a sun hat because my floppy one always gets in my eyes. I borrowed Jeff’s hat and Bracken must have thought I looked really funny because he giggled like crazy as soon as I put it on.
We picked a few blueberries while we were there. Bracken pulls any hat off that I put on him, so I got creative to keep him nice and cool in the shade. I found that if I faced in a certain direction, the sun hat I was wearing would shade both of us. Bracken liked the dancing shadows that came through the hat and he chewed on the strap the whole time, which kept him entertained while I plucked berries.
Bracken has bright blue eyes. We are often asked where he gets them from, since Jeff and I don’t have eyes that color. We like to say it’s from all the blueberries I ate while I was pregnant with him.
I harvested lots of lettuce in the garden this week. We had plenty for salads, so I harvested all the extra ones that were going to seed and brought them for the ladies. It was so sweet how excited and surprised they were to see me. I loved being able to bring them treats. Feeding them is just so fun and seeing them at such a great home does my heart good.
‘Just one more puh-lease?!’
Not only did Jeff’s sun hat entertain Bracken in the blueberry field, it also entertained him during the drive (until the very end when he fell asleep.) Is this picture sweet or what?
It was a short visit that made me so excited to do some serious blueberry picking next week!
Time for movie night. Then market tomorrow.
If you happen to be by, do come and visit!
Happy Weekend All!!

What a fun day! So sorry I missed you at market – this summer has been so busy, the weekends I’m not working we’ve seemed to be out of town on Saturdays. Needless to say, I’m in need of a Saturday Market fix. 🙂
Yep I live by Mckenzie River Farms, probably 15-20 minutes! It’d be great to pick blueberries together sometime! 🙂

yay for blueberry picking! We drove by the farm down the road from us today just to look if the sign was up yet. Finally, there is a sign! It says “NOT RIPE.” Oh well. They will be soon.
Bracken is such a sweetie. Amazing how much he has grown. And it made me smile to hear the goats were so excited to see you.

Aw, how sweet! A busy hot day picking blueberries and feeding goaties will wear out a little boy real fast. All our blueberries are gone here in Ga. I picked 3 1/2 gallons. They don’t last long here.
