I smiled sleepily as Jeff reached for my hand and wished me happy birthday in the wee hours of the morning.

I admired the tallest sunflower that’s blessed our garden yet, towering well above our greenhouse.

I delighted over very silly birthday songs on the phone.
–
I appreciated a bountiful breakfast with lots of extra onions and garlic, since my immune system needed a little boost.
–
I laughed at our fishing adventure (what I wanted to do for my birthday.)
–
I learned that it is unwise to embark on fishing adventures during Bracken’s nap time.
–
I enjoyed every sweet message and gift.
–
I “worked”, but I slowed my pace down.
–
I savored time with Jeff and Bracken in the garden, and felt grateful for the sun shining.
–
I ate blackberries and huckleberries in the yard and they were so good.
–
I discovered a relaxing bath is appreciated all the more when it takes nursing Bracken to sleep three times before he stays asleep (and doesn’t pop back awake the moment I quietly head for the tub.)

I turned 26.

I thought back………
So much has happened in 26 years.
So much has happened in one year!
A year ago, I was big, pregnant, and preparing for Bracken’s arrival.
Not long after my 25th birthday, he entered the world.
Someone else has a birthday coming up…..
Can it be?!

I’m a couple of days late but happy happy birthday, Taryn! I’m celebrating my 30th on Monday. I think this is a great time of year to be born – I’m sure Bracken agrees!
