This morning I was washing dishes at the kitchen sink, with Bracken, when Jeff brought me in a surprise gift! A plum! He knew I’d been eyeing the tree out back, watching for those plums to go from green to purple. And this year, there weren’t very many to watch. Our fruit trees haven’t been too happy. There are only a handful of apples on our apple tree and a few plums on the plum tree. The peach, asian pear, and other apple tree are not bearing any fruit this year. They all need a good pruning, some nutrient rich fertilizer, and some cooperative weather. Because of all that, I wasn’t getting my hopes up that we’d be eating our own plums this year, even though I saw a few at the very top.
Cheers to happy surprises!
Purple on the outside, yellow and juicy on the inside. Yum!
Bracken had his first taste of plum. And the gift bearer got some too.
What surprises have you enjoyed lately?

a suprise from my garden…just when I was about to pull the peas out and get ready to plant a new bed for a winter garden, I discovered more peas coming on! third round! So even though they look like thier done, they keep producing. Nice suprise.

Beautiful plum! Husk cherries are my recent surprise – went to a local farm and there they were! Each one is like a little paper wrapped present of vanilla/pineapple goodness!
