Throughout the week I’ve felt grateful for:
-Capturing moments like above. I grabbed the camera because they were so sweet napping together. Just as I went to take the picture, Jeff woke up and glancing at Bracken, got the most adoring smile on his face. I love those two.
–
-Seeing the change in the mountains when we drove to the post office. There’s still lots of green (it’s always green) but now there are the colors of fall interspersed throughout and it’s so beautiful.
–
-More grapes put in the freezer. More plums and pears in the dehydrator. More applesauce made.
–
-One night feeling a warm, angelic presence in our room and watching Bracken light up and interact with something I couldn’t see. He was chatting away with his friend, having a grand ol’ time before bedtime.
–
-Little tasks to prepare for winter, like bringing in all the clothespins off the line.
–
-Being more honest with myself all the time, about how I feel. And having loved ones I can freely express myself with and be supported. As I make more decisions based on what’s best for my well being rather than what will please others, my life gets better and better.
–
-A few days where I got some of lunch prepared while working on breakfast. One day I washed lettuce to be ready for a salad for lunch, and the other days chopped up butternut squash and put it in the steamer to have with our lunch. It made lunchtime so much easier and faster.
–
-The way the addition of fresh cilantro can transform meals into an extraordinary culinary experience.
–
-Finding a home for our cats. For many reasons, we have decided we would like to have no animals here for awhile. Next we are looking for a home for the dogs. We are already feeling more relieved.
–
-Doing a swap with our neighbors for a washing machine! Then having our neighbor show up right at the moment Jeff needed help getting it up the stairs into the pantry. Bye-bye laundromat. I’ve been loving doing our laundry at home again and hanging it to dry by the woodstove.
–
-Jeff surprising me by getting a lot of cleaning done in the pantry and mopping the pantry and kitchen floors! I pause whenever I walk through the pantry now, just to admire the fresh energy in there! It’s so much more spacious, clear, open and organized.
–
-Tackling big projects. We moved the old goat barn (aka a re-created carport) into the front driveway. Jeff has been transforming it into an outdoor workshop. (I had no idea he was going to make it so cool, his creative vision really blows me away!) All of his work spaces are crowded. This will give him much more room to work in and he can do larger carvings and sanding out there. Words can’t express how much this is going to change our lives!
–
-Organizing. The more organized we get, the smoother our life flows.
–
-The gift of fencing from friends, that is really going to come in handy! We already know right where we want to put it.
–
-My mom leaving a hilarious message on our answering machine that made me laugh so hard. I love the silly messages she leaves, giving us the gift of laughter on a regular basis.
–
-Hearing the sound of a seagull outside our window. Every now and then one will come up the river by our house. I love that sound, it reminds me of the ocean, one of my favorite places to be.

-A wonderful first birthday for Bracken!

Oh Taryn what a beautiful list!
I love the photo of Jeff and Bracken.
Preparing for winter feels good and cozy in a way, doesn’t it. Preparing for a quieter, more inward season feels good right about now.
I love the one about being more and more honest with yourself, and having the courage to share that truth with supportive loved ones — even that can be hard though. I’m very much “in” this one, too, at the moment.
I love feeling efficient in the kitchen! Makes things so much nicer. And cilantro! Don’t you love it?! I do too.
Congratulations on a new washing machine! That is huge!!! SO glad you don’t have to do the laundromat anymore. Gawd.
Bird sounds can lend such a mood can’t they… what a treat to hear a seagull! Occasionally we will here one too, even in Colorado, and I just get totally transported when that happens! 🙂
Here’s my list for the week:
