I just finished creating this wool doll during Bracken’s nap yesterday. As soon as he woke up, we headed outside in the light rain to take pictures of her (you can see lots of raindrops in the pictures.) I just posted her here in the shop.
This is what I wrote:
Meet Buttercup the Blueberry Gnome!
She is made completely out of wool and her body is filled with lavender and wool (she smells quite lovely indeed!) Buttercup lives in the base of a tree, on the edge of a blueberry field. Her favorite food in the whole world, (you guessed it!) is blueberries. Her mother told her she ate so many blueberries when she was pregnant with her, that it’s surely the reason Buttercup’s eyes are so blue. One blueberry is a full meal for Buttercup, being a small gnome like she is. Her hair is the bright yellow color of buttercup flowers, with braids nearly as long as she is! Buttercup has rosy cheeks and a happy smile. She makes a very good friend.
I made Buttercup’s body with a wool sweater that I felted. I stitched the sides up with some blue alpaca yarn and stuffed it with lavender buds and wool. I created her head in some wool that I dyed with henna to create a nice skin tone. Then I needle felted on her face features with wool. I needle felted yellow yarn to the top of her head and then braided it down the sides. The yellow yarn came from a local farm, a sheep named Berthold, and was dyed with marigolds. Then I needle felted a gnome cap for her with some local wool, dyed a gorgeous blue.
Here she is, ready to meet some friends! (Preferably ones who like to eat blueberries too, but she likes everyone.)
She was made for gentle play.
I’ve been dreaming up more little gnome friends to create! Bracken’s nap each day, is a busy time!

She is just delightful! I love the expression on her wee face — it makes me smile just looking at her! I enjoyed reading about how and from where she was crafted — obviously made with such care and love. I made my son a lavender dream pillow and the scent is pure bliss. Thanks for sharing.
