Some mornings the house is chilly before Jeff gets the fire going in the woodstove. I wanted to make some cozy slippers for Bracken to wear to keep those little toes warm. I took out a felted wool sweater during one of his naps and started making him a pair. I added soles of leather, to give him good traction while he walked around. I stitched the wool together with some blue alpaca yarn and added some sassafras buttons to finish them off.
I made many “mistakes” and learned a lot as I made the first slippers I’ve ever created. I made them up as I went along and it was fun. The sizing is not quite right, but they certainly keep him warm (and look so cute while they’re doing it.)

Oh, I love these.
I made some very similar the other day for my littlest one. I also stitched them up on the fly without a pattern, and wanted to blog about them but have misplaced them 🙂
I’m sure they’ll turn up again. I love the big buttons on these.

I love these Taryn! They’re precious and they have so much character!
Isn’t it so satisfying to create something so useful and practical with your own hands! I’m loving that with the mittens I’m making.
And I love working with thrift store sweaters cause it’s more instant gratification and I don’t have to knit the thing first! haha!
