Throughout the week I’ve felt grateful for:
-Bracken’s giggle.
.
-Discovering that our healing salve works well for deodorant also. I just keep finding more uses for it! (Though I have an inspiration brewing with ideas for making a deodorant that will work even better.)
.
-Talking to my mom and hearing glee in her voice. I like love that.
.
-Starting a new Sunday ritual: spending Bracken’s nap time reading. During his naps, my hands are usually busy creating. It is a wonderful gift to myself on Sundays to just read and relax, I am looking forward to it each week now.
.
-Home-canned peaches right out of the jar. (And eating them by a warm fire while they’re still cold from the pantry.)
.
-Bursting with so much inspiration and ideas. It’s a blessing to feel so inspired, though it can be overwhelming. I’ve been filling notebooks with all my ideas so I can empty out my whirling brain enough to actually fall asleep.
.
-A moment with Bracken in my lap as we sat quietly in the warm sunshine. It was one of the most peaceful times we’ve shared together. It was a simple moment, yet one I’ll always cherish.
.
-A full tank of gas.
.
-Feeling that the more grateful we are, the more blessed our life gets.

.
-Seeing fresh growth amongst the snow. Like this lemonbalm. Such a beautiful sight.
.
-Jeff making a batch of hawthorn honey. He wanted to take hawthorn on a regular basis because it is so good for heart health and now he puts some of his hawthorn honey in his tea every morning to get his daily dose. I’m grateful he took the time to do something kind for his body.
.
-Library books. I love delving into good books. It’s like a vacation of sorts.
.
-Support. I am so grateful for the support that Jeff and my mom, Julie, have given me at times when I really needed it. They have helped me so many times, in so many ways, and I will always be grateful to them both.
.
-Having an incredibly synchronistic and smoothly-flowing day. (We even seemed to get all green lights driving in town that day.)
.
-Talking to Jeff about my vision for what we needed for our market booth this year- a wood shelf, so we could fit more creations in our limited space. I even described what I wanted it to be like. Then going to town a few days later and seeing a sign that said “Wood Shelves Liquidation.” Score!! We got just the shelf we needed (just like the one I’d visualized!) at an incredible deal and were elated!
.
-Jeff finally making an appointment with the chiropractor, when his back was out of alignment. He went and it helped a lot. (Though it seems to be back out of alignment again- darnit!)
.
-Jeff picking out some wonderful goodies with his early birthday present from my grandma- a gift certificate to one of our very favorite stores ever- Down to Earth. He picked out a giant blueberry bush (a different variety than the ones we already had, which is important for production), two varieties of asparagus, lots of seeds (mostly herbs we’ve been wanting to grow and some greens), a spearmint plant, dirt. He was a very happy early-birthday-boy. (And with the things he chose, it felt like my birthday too.)
.
-Lunch in town. Chicken skewers and kombucha from Holy Cow. Their chicken is from local, pastured hens and the kombucha is locally made. It’s so nice to have fast food we can eat when we run errands in town!
.
-Jeff dealing with the mouse in the attic. Living where we do, we get our share of rodents and I’m so grateful that Jeff always deals with them so I don’t have to. I might always expect him to, but I certainly don’t take it for granted! Thank you Jeff!!!
.
–Eating so much fresh food.
.
-Knitting with some luscious alpaca yarn that was so lovely it felt like knitting with silk.
.
-Laughter. Togetherness.
.
-A playdate and watching the kiddos interact.
.
-Gifts of hand-me-down clothes for Bracken. With all the gifts of clothes, he has more than plenty to wear. The only clothes we ever buy him are cotton pants from the thrift store (since we use those rather than diapers whenever we’re at home.) We’re grateful.
.
-Seeing everything Jeff did in the garden. He planted asparagus and collards. And all the garlic we had planted in the greenhouse over winter. He even weeded and the garden is looking more beautiful at this time of year than it ever has before.
.
-That rough days can feel so far away after a night of sleep and that grouchiness from low blood sugar can fade so quickly after a nourishing meal.
.
-How writing gratitudes at the end of the day, ends the day the right way, no matter how challenging it was.
.
-Being reminded to appreciate loved ones. Our friend found out her mom has pancreatic cancer and may not have long to live. It is a reminder to savor our time with our loved ones.
.
-Capturing some photos of these two…..

You always inspire me Taryn, so much so I shared my list this week 🙂 What I love about reading everyone’s lists is all the things I read and think “YES! I am grateful for those things as well!” – what a wonderful way to spread love 🙂

Dear Taryn…I feel so uplifted by your gratitude ~ isn’t that amazing! It is contagious!!! And I plan on spending a few moments each night to think of a few things to be grateful for. Honestly, so simple and a gift to myself, which means a gift to my children and husband. On Sundays, we take turns going around the table to say praises for each other, maybe that counts?! Thanks for spreading gratitude:)

What a sweet, lighthearted list!!! I loved it; and I can relate to SO many of those! I wanna get to bed (big garden day tomorrow) though I could go on and on…. but wanted to say that YES – the inspiration flowing so fast that it interrupts sleep… I completely relate to that, especially lately!
And… support. From family. That is the biggest thing ever.
Just love your list!

Such a sweet post, Taryn! I love the pics of your guys and the sights of all that’s coming up in your garden. We have lemon balm sprouting again, too! And we have loved the peaches we canned last fall as well…they went fast and I still can’t forget the lovely taste of them! Can’t wait to make more next year 🙂

I am so grateful to hear that Down to Earth is still open!!! That brought tears to my eyes! 15 years ago when I was in college at UofO, a perfect weekend morning would be to ride my bike down to Allen Brothers (are they still there?) with a book or a sketchbook for a few hours, then spend another hour wondering through Down to Earth. Those mornings would totally fill my soul. Oh I miss Eugene!
