I’ve hinted that there were new herbal products on the way. It’s been hard not to write about them here because we’ve been so excited, but I like to wait to announce them until it’s all come together and they’re ready.
Well, a few are ready so I can finally share them with you!
We just posted Peppermint Tooth Powder in the shop.
It all started when I started paying attention to ingredients on labels. First with our food, which led us on the path to eating only whole foods and cooking everything from scratch, then bath and body products…. which has been leading us down the same path of making our own. I searched for a toothpaste without flouride. I found one, only to see sodium lauryl sulfate, which I didn’t want in there either. Doing my research, I didn’t want harmful ingredients in our toothpaste. We wanted a healthy solution which inspired us to make our own. We looked up recipes for tooth powder and played around, experimenting until we found a recipe we loved. We know how toxic most body care products are and we feel passionate about creating healthy options.
I love using our tooth powder, knowing all the ingredients are healthy, and I love the way it works. After using it, my teeth feel cleaner than they’ve ever felt before. (And I enjoy having minty fresh breath too!)

Not only do we feel good about creating a product that works great and is healthy for the body, we’re also happy to provide this earth friendly option. We’re happy to say bye-bye to the toothpaste tubes that fill up the landfills and hello to these glass jars made from 100% recycled glass, that look so beautiful on the counter. (You can see how to use tooth powder and the ingredients we use here.)
We also purchased labels made from 100% post consumer waste. When we got them in the mail, I wasn’t sure if I would like them as much as the labels we were using because they weren’t shiny like the ones that I was used to. But they are 100% recycled!! And we feel really really good about that! I love making little changes in our business that can make a big difference.
And the other herbal goodness now available are natural perfumes made with essential oils!
Jeff had the inspiration to make essential oil perfumes in handmade wooden containers. We each dreamed up two scents, and created them together, making four different combinations.

He attaches the glass containers to the wood containers. The lids screw on tightly. How fun to have these perfumes in wood containers!
The scents we have are:

It all started with Utopian Daydream. Jeff blended that one. It was truly inspired. I came downstairs one morning and said “What is that smell?!” It smelled so good. I told him it made me feel like I was in paradise on a beautiful idyllic day. That’s how the name- Utopian Daydream came. It has essential oils of patchouli, ho wood, sandalwood, cedarwood, ylang ylang, tangerine and rose absolute oil. It transports me. You can read Jeff’s inspiration behind this blend here.
Then I had an inspiration for Flowering Woodland. I described my idea to Jeff and we started working on it together. We added a little of this and a little of that until it smelled just right. When I close my eyes, this scent brings the vision of a flowering woodland. It’s earthy and grounding with a touch of sweetness. It has essential oils of patchouli, cedarwood, lavender, lemongrass and a touch of tangerine. I can smell it now, just writing about it.
Next, came my idea for Calming Uplift. I wanted something refreshing and clarifying, being the huge peppermint fan that I am. We blended together essential oils of peppermint, lavender, and eucalyptus. Ahh, this blend is truly a mood lifter. It clears the mind and is helpful for headaches. The other blends I like to put on my wrists, this blend is one I like to put under my nose. It’s uplifting, yet calming at the same time.
Last, but not least, Jeff created Sandalwood Rose. They happen to be two of his favorite scents. I love that he can be splitting firewood one moment and then covering himself in rose scent the next. (My kind of man!) This blend is just… exquisite. The ratio is just right. It has sandalwood essential oil and rose absolute oil. In all of our blends we add apricot kernel oil, which is nourishing to the skin. The Australian sandalwood essential oil that we use is an organically cultivated alternative to traditional Indian sandalwood which is threatened. (Western Australia is home to the world’s largest sustainable sandalwood reserve.)
Jeff has another blend in the works.
Working on these blends has given me an appreciation for the healing power of scents. It’s amazing the positive effect they have on the body.
When I posted these scents in the shop, I added some pictures from our garden.

Love everything about this! I use homemade tooth powder and just love everything about it – so great others can get your wonderful blend. And those perfumes sound divine – the container is magical.

Oh, the tooth powder sounds so intriguing! I’ve been meaning to try and make some healthy substitute to those terrible toothpastes in plastic tubes but still haven’t. After finding out about the toxic ingredients in body care products I had to throw away 80% of what we had at home. It has been almost a year now since we started washing with baking soda. In other words, I applaud your tooth powder and I am sure it tastes amazing!
And the perfume… can there be any better container for a homemade perfume? Simply enchanting! You sure live in the fairy tales, don’t you?

Your perfumes sound wonderful. And two have patchouli, my favorite scent!
I have been making and using tooth powder for almost a year now, and I absolutely love it. I would not go back to paste. The powder tastes so much better, and my teeth get way more clean. In fact, last month I had a dental appointment, and it was the first time I can ever remember going to the dentist and not needing a cavity filled!! It was like a little miracle.
Oh my those wooden perfume containers are stunning. Pieces of art to be displayed. & the scents inside sound heavenly. I will have to check out your shop 😉
Oh, and speaking of good smells, I’ve been wearing your nursing tops you gave me and they sure smell amazing, even after multiple washes here! What’s your trick?
I love everything! The essential oils intrigue me, I can’t wait to smell the wonderful concoctions you two discovered. I might have to get calming uplift – all my favorite scents! Are you selling at market come April?
Also, do you live close to lake creek off the siuslaw. My hubby is fishing there today.
Ps, thanks for offering to let me borrow the EC book… I’m very excited to read it!
