Today I’m joining Ginny for her Wednesday Yarn Along,
sharing what I am reading and knitting.

Well, ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ got put on hold because the new issue of Taproot arrived! (Shown above with a background of lemon balm in our garden.) Seeing it in the mailbox lifted my spirits and I held the first issue close to my heart; excited and wondering what it would be like. A little ways in so far and enjoying it. The last article I read before bed last night was about herbs. While reading about how good dandelion greens are for you, I felt inspired to start harvesting more wild greens to put in our salads (including dandelion.) Jeff and I have been talking about all the herbs we want to grow this year and I started a list. Some are familiar friends, others we are curious about and have never worked with before.
You might be wondering what that tiny blue blob is on top of the magazine. That is the elf hat I’ve been working on. When I finished it, it was the perfect size for a toddler to wear, but I got a wild hair and I just had to felt it in the washing machine to see what it would turn out like. (I’m really in love with felting.) I figured it would shrink to newborn size, but if it shrunk more than that, I planned on using it for one of my wooly creatures. It shrunk a lot (as you can see) and it just so happened that it fit the wooly creature I’m working on right now, perfectly. So perfectly, I was blown away, and I can’t wait to show you when I’m finished. I had never felted alpaca fiber before, only wool. The felted alpaca is wonderful- so silky and soft. I’ve got some ideas for my next knitting project and it’s going to involve felting too because I just can’t get enough of felting these days.

Any good books you’ve been enjoying?
Knitting anything these days?

Taproot is so lovely. I love it because, as they say “it is something to read that doesn’t glow” 🙂 I am still knitting a for-me sweater that should have been done months ago that I had to rip out and restart, which was sad – but now it is fitting really well, if only I can get it finished! 🙂

I just finished one of a pair of fingerless gloves, though not in anything more exotic that acrylic yarn leftover from a project I did for someone. As far as reading, in Artist’s Way, I was supposed to be on a week-long reading fast, but I only made it three days and went back to reading my favorite blogs and Artist’s Way. I can see her point about over-reading as a type of self-medication, but I think I was starting to get the shakes!

I’m going to subscribe when we get back to the US! I’m reading a great book I checked out from the library, “Rural Free: a Farmwife’s Almanac of Country Living”. Beautifully written newspaper columns originally published in the 1960s. I’ve just started reading it and will be sad to finish.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen felted alpaca before. It sounds divine, all silky and soft…
