Today I’m joining Ginny, of Small Things, for her Wednesday Yarn Along,
sharing what I am knitting and reading.

…Knitting…
Well, last week I said I was planning on my next knitting project involving felting… then I saw this gorgeous aqua wool yarn in my stash and knew it would be perfect to make another cowl like this moss green one. Not only did I want to be filling our booth and shop with more wool creations, I also thought it would be nice to have next to our handmade buttons to show yet another project they can be used for. With some trips to town where Jeff drove, I was able to get a lot of knitting done and finished the cowl. I should say almost finished it because I haven’t picked out which wood buttons I’d like to put on it yet. I’m leaning toward yew. I think the warm reddish tones in the yew wood would pair nicely with the cool tones of the aqua blue.
…Reading…
As for reading, I am still reading ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ and I must say, it is incredibly humbling and refreshingly real in a raw way. It’s so eye-opening. I know what it’s like to live on very little money, but I don’t know what it’s like to be starving and homeless. Reading about the harsh circumstances throughout the book deepens my gratitude for every little thing and fills me with awe for the strength of people’s spirits.
My gratitude deepens for my family that I love so dearly, for each and every nourishing meal we eat, for a roof over our heads (even when it leaks), and for a bit of ground to plant a garden in. While reading, there are moments my heart breaks and my eyes fill with tears, and other moments where my heart sings at the love people share with each other.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

Lovely yarn! I seem to be drawn to these gorgeous shades of blue in my knitting lately.
Just a quick note to let you know that our wee babe made her appearance last week, and it was a great source of strength for me to have my beautiful goddess necklace. You can read Gaia’s birth story here – http://trinityacres.wordpress.com/2012/04/03/shes-here/

I usually just knit washcloths. I take them to our homeschool craft fair every spring and fall. The craft fair is in two weeks so I need to get some more knitting done. As far as reading, I just finished the second book in the Hunger Games series. I’m still not sure how I feel about these books but they keep me reading.
