Today I’m joining Ginny’s weekly Yarn Along,
sharing what I am knitting and reading.

…Knitting…
Remember the hat I started last week? I finished it! I’m calling it ‘The Woodland Trillium Hat.’ Fit for a woodland creature (and trillium lover.) Our recent adventure gave me lots of knitting time (since I just seem to knit these days when I’m riding in the car.) After I finished knitting it extra big, I felted it in the washing machine. I felted some other things with it as well and oops- it got a little dyed, which gave the nice earthy-brown wool a reddish tint. And I actually liked the new color!
The size it felted to? It was small on Bracken (who modeled it for me here, so I could show what it looks like on.) I added the trillium on it with some pieces of 100% wool felt that were gifts from a reader. I’ve written about my love for trilliums (like in the post: The Full Moon Trillium Dance) and I’m delighted to have created a hat in their honor. I’m excited to see what it will look like in our market booth.
…Reading…
I finished reading the ‘GAPS Guide’ by Baden Lashkov. There were things I liked about it and things I didn’t. I enjoyed the real-life stories of healing and there were some good tips and perspectives, but there was also some advice that I simply didn’t agree with. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it.
‘Gut and Psychology Syndrome’ by Natasha Campbell-McBride contains the best information about the GAPS diet (and is an essential read for understanding the diet.) ‘GAPS Guide’ was written to be a companion book to it, a condensed version (not a substitute), but doesn’t contain anything essential that you won’t find in Natasha’s book (in my opinion.)
I started a new book called ‘A Sweetness to the Soul’ by Jane Kirkpatrick. The story takes place in Oregon in the 1890’s. Jane Kirkpatrick is an Oregon author and I’ve read her work before. I’m enjoying losing myself in a story and look forward to reading a little more before bed each night. I always keep my fingers crossed that Bracken will fall asleep easily so I can have more reading time.
So, The Woodland Trillium Hat and A Sweetness to the Soul
are what I’ve been knitting and reading.
How about you?
such a cute hat and pretty flower!
What a cutie cute hat.lovely x
What a beautiful hat! It’s hard to felting with the washing machine, I also experienced sometimes and sometimes it shrinks too much or not enough! As in, I managed to vary the size I wanted by putting a program with less spin or less hot … Otherwise it’s longer but felted by hand with soap and water, we can stop the felting when they reached the desired size… Anyway, your hat is beautiful , I love the color and shape!
Lovely work Taryn! when I lived in the mountains of North Carolina.. the trillium bloom was my fave time of year. So beautiful. Hope you get lots of time to read your book!
what a sweet hat!
Love the hat!! We actually went looking for trillium’s today, they are almost ready to bloom in our neck of the woods, can’t wait!
