Today I’m joining Ginny’s Yarn Along, sharing what I am knitting and reading.
.
I’m knitting up the last of that beautiful blue alpaca yarn. I loved the way it felted before and I’ll probably end up felting this project too. It looks like an over-sized hat right now, but it’s actually going to be a bag. (I would have knitted it much bigger if I had more yarn.) I’ll just have to show you when it’s finished because it’s challenging to describe my vision for it. Once again, I’m making it up as I go along (not that this is complicated at all, it’s just straight knitting on the round and perfect for working on during car rides.) I’ve never followed a pattern while knitting, but one of these days I will when I venture into more adventurous knitting.
I’m still reading ‘A Sweetness to the Soul’ and it feels like a little vacation each night before bed, going to another world… back in the “olden days” of Oregon. I love reading about mules, gardens, wagons, pioneers, the pristine Oregon wilderness, the native tribes, huckleberry picking and salmon fishing. And I have fun telling Jeff all about the story (because I know he’s not going to read it, otherwise I wouldn’t ruin it for him.) The main character, Jane Herbert, has had her share of challenges and heartbreak, but her strong spirit perseveres. I can’t wait to see what happens next. As soon as Bracken falls asleep tonight, my book will be back open (but most nights I get so sleepy I’m not that far behind him.)
It’s raining today and I found a nice, mossy spot for this picture- right on our front steps. We’re in Oregon alright.
What have you been knitting and reading friends?

Taryn, I just have to say how much I love your blog. It’s so inspirational and uplifting! That blue alpaca yarn looks divine! I love to spin and knit alpaca.
So what am I reading lately? In preparation to teach an upcoming Botany class in the fall, I’m taking an online field ID course for plants. The book we are using is called: Botany in a Day by Thomas J. Elpel’s. Identifying plants can be overwhelming for most individuals, but this teaches you to recognize characteristics of different families of plants first. It’s a great approach! And the book covers most of the US.
As far as what I’m knitting? I just found this fabulous pattern on Ravelry (you can also search for it on Etsy) called the Cyclops Pot Plant. It’s so fun and fitting for Botany. =)
Have a wonderful day!
