Yesterday morning Bracken and I woke up and went to see Jeff, who was already in the workshop creating. He looked at me and said “did you know today is our anniversary?” I looked at him and said “It is?” My mom and grandma had sent e-mails wishing us a happy anniversary. Both Jeff and I had lost track of the date and had completely forgotten. Thanks to them we were reminded. We thought it was pretty funny and then Jeff joked “Hey, I know, let’s go to the beach to celebrate our anniversary!”
(We already had plans to go.)
I can hardly believe it, but yesterday was Bracken’s first time playing in the sand! Oh, he’s been to the ocean before. When he was younger he was carried in the Ergo, and it seems the last few times the beaches we went to were covered in rocks. But this beach had sand as far as the eye could see. Bracken had some buckets and some digging tools (from the gardening set his great grandma gave him), and he was completely enamored with sand.
Bracken wasn’t the only one having fun in the sand.
Jeff dug a big hole
And reclined in it.
Being away from home and life’s “responsibilities” for a little while made him so relaxed, he said he could have taken a nap.
It was foggy and very windy.
We walked away from the water, into the dunes, where it was more protected from the wind and much warmer. The sand felt so warm on our barefeet. I love the feeling of sand in my toes.
We met our dear friends Jolene and Kelson. We cherish our time with them.
Bracken took a break from his excitement over the sand, to follow Kelson around.
(I felt a little annoyed with our point-and-click camera when it was too slow to capture some sweet moments between those two.)
My soul had been yearning for the ocean. It felt wonderful to be there.
