Every morning we go out to the garden to harvest something. The something that we harvest is constantly changing. Yesterday it was zucchini.
And some yarrow.
Every step of the way, Bracken’s little hands are there helping, his curious eyes learning,
and his senses -in the moment- experiencing it all.
His favorite thing to harvest lately (when all the ripe blueberries are gone) are the wild huckleberries from our favorite giant bush beside the house. Most of the berries are still green, but he spots the ripe ones with his hawk eyes.
Then he pops them in his mouth, quick as can be. (Or holds them tightly in his fist like the most prized treasure and saves them for later.)
This morning we headed out to harvest and Bracken went straight for the jungle of zucchini.
We found a few St.John’s Wort flowers too. (Which are starting to slow down now.)
We went to harvest some more in the afternoon and Bracken came running over to show me something green. I thought it was a zucchini at first, until Jeff told me to look closer. The first cucumber!
(We’ve eaten it already.)
It made it’s way into the basket, with a bunch of calendula.
Oh yes, and some green beans.
They made their way into that basket too.
.
These harvesting hands, big and small, are enjoying all the love the garden shares.
