Today I’m joining Ginny’s Yarn Along, sharing what I’m knitting and reading.
.
As you can see, Bracken was my photography assistant for the Yarn Along pictures today.
This gorgeous handspun yarn was spun by the wonderful Camilla, of Twist & Twine Yarns. I love the colors, the textures, the feel, and it’s so fun to knit with. I’m making a hat for a baby girl I adore. Her mama reads this blog, so it might be a surprise. For some reason I just kept thinking of a certain dark haired baby girl whenever I held this yarn and kept thinking how good the colors would look on her, so I knew I was meant to knit something for her with it. I started the hat, then ripped it out and started again to make it a little bigger. I’d rather have the hat bigger than smaller.
This book called out to me at the library awhile ago. I’ve had it next to my bedside and remembered there’s only so long you can renew books from the library.
Rewind. Some spinning background: I’ve always felt drawn towards spinning. My aunt (that spins) gifted me with a spinning wheel she found at a thrift store and a drop spindle. She said the spinning wheel wasn’t the best, but it was something to start on and practice on. I tried to get the hang of it, but that wheel was not a good fit for me, the pedal was so hard to push. I brought it to a friend who had been spinning for a long time and she said it was a really difficult wheel. I was afraid to let go of the spinning wheel, afraid that my dream of spinning would go along with it. But I finally sold the wheel before Bracken was born, knowing in my heart that my dream of spinning would happen when the time was right.
Now suddenly I’ve been seeing spinning around me everywhere and feeling freshly inspired. Only one thing: I didn’t have a wheel. Then about a month or so ago, another spinning friend came by market and the conversation turned to spinning. I love her spinning. She said she never liked spinning on a wheel and preferred a drop spindle. Really? All her yarn I loved so much was spun on a drop spindle?! It was a glorious moment for me! It might sound silly, but it made me realize that I already had what I needed to start spinning at home- a drop spindle! So the adventure begins and I’m excited.

What have you been knitting and reading?
P.S. I finished that cowl from last week. Jeff made me a button for it in a piece of abalone shell.
