Today I’m joining Ginny’s Yarn Along, sharing what I’m knitting and reading.
.
I started another elf hat after finishing Bracken’s. (It’s not pictured because I was too busy photographing the cowl I finished.) I’m still reading ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.’ I’ve been so tired by the time Bracken falls asleep, I write in my gratitude journal and then fall asleep. So there hasn’t been much reading. But I did give myself a gift on Sunday. I spent Bracken’s entire nap time reading. It was bliss.
I try to spend Bracken’s nap times doing something regenerating because that quiet time is essential for me. But lately I’ve been feeling so far behind with all that needs doing and I’ve been spending all his nap times working working working. Too many days of that in a row and today I felt grouchy. I had a long night of terrible dreams -ugh- that weighed heavy on me. Every little thing throughout the day made me want to whine and complain. A good sign I need to take some time to myself to get back in balance. (Don’t get me wrong, I love what we do, I just need a little balance, ya know?)
Anyway, I meant this to be a post about knitting. I finished my cowl! I added some buttons in yew wood from our front yard. This wood is so special to us and it seemed the perfect fit. I love how the colors go together. I love to add several big buttons on cowls, but with the weight of this yarn, I decided to go with small buttons and added more than I usually do. I’m happy with it.
The gorgeous yarn was handspun by Karen, of Gift of Grace Handspun. The color is called harvest. Perfect for fall. (Ravelry notes here.) When Bracken saw me wearing the cowl for pictures, he wanted to wear it too, so I took some pictures of him in it. It looked hilarious with his shirt that says ‘Daddy’s Little Rebel’ with a picture of a motorcycle. I guess I’m not the only one who will be enjoying this cowl come fall!
