Lisa, of Hullabaloo Homestead, writes a list each year on her birthday of random things about herself. I enjoyed reading her lists and I thought it was such a fun idea.
So, here’s my 27 things:
1) When I was little I often smiled with my mouth closed because I was embarrassed of my crooked teeth.
.
2) I was born on the 21st and 21 is my lucky number.
.
3) I love all the seasons, but fall is my favorite season and September is my favorite month.
.
4) I believe everything happens for a reason.
.
5) My dreams have brought me really important messages throughout my life and have helped me immensely on my path.
.
6) Bright colors inspire me. I’ve picked paint colors before that have shocked people (hello sunflower yellow! avocado green!)
.
7) Early on, I wanted to be a singer when I grew up. I wrote my own songs and recorded them on my tape recorder.
.
8) I feel I can express myself more easily through writing than vocally.
.
9) I’ve had my hair cut short quite a few times, but I’ve always felt most myself with long hair.
.
10) I sometimes think readers might be disappointed if they met me in “real life.”
.
11) Milking goats every day will always be something I remember with great fondness.
.
12) The ocean brings me peace and I gravitate towards it when I need clarity about something.
.
13) I’m much more comfortable giving compliments than receiving them. (I remind myself that love is about giving and receiving, and that they’re both important for a happy heart.)
.
14) My whole life, I always knew I was going to be a mama.
.
15) I think Bracken’s laughter is one of the best sounds in the entire world.
.
16) Sometimes I find it challenging to stay in my “center” in social situations. I’m learning.
.
17) Journaling is one of my favorite tools for connecting with my Spirit.
.
18) I remember many of my past lives.
.
19) Growing up, I loved to draw house designs and build forts. I dreamed of building my own home someday. And I still do.
.
20) Quiet solitude in nature fills me up. I need solitude to flourish.
.
21) I believe in angels and value my connection with my guardian angel and my guides.
.
22) Visiting my great grandmother’s farm growing up (that had the stinkiest pig smell ever) did not make me think fondly of farm life. I surprised myself later when I wanted to be a farmer.
.
23) Having too many possessions (too much “stuff”) stresses me out. I like organized, clean, zen-like spaces.
.
24) My very latest bedtime is 10, but I prefer earlier. I love going to bed early and I treasure my sleep.
.
25) One of my soul lessons is to learn to stand up for myself and reclaim my power.
.
26) I have a connection to deer, owls, tortoises, goats, and sheep.
.
27) My favorite place to be is at home with my family.

So there you have it, 27 random things.
Jeff asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday. At first I thought going to the ocean. Then I thought Sweet Creek Falls (a magical hike along waterfalls, near here.) But then I had a moment out in the garden with Bracken, thinking of all the things we had been wanting to do in the garden that we hadn’t had time for lately. I realized the place I’d like to be most is in the garden and the way I’d like to spend my birthday is to be working on a project together out there.
Thanks to our neighbor, we’ll be enjoying halibut for lunch. Jeff had a culinary inspiration. He’s going to be making a pear basil sauce for it. How does he come up with this stuff? It sounds divine.
Our dear friend and her little one (Bracken’s bud) are coming over for a little while. Then tomorrow my dad is visiting and is going to help us get wood out of the yard and into the woodshed for the winter.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and thank you for all the birthday wishes you’ve been sending me. You sure know how to make a gal feel loved.
