Today’s giveaway is brought to you by Wooly Moss Roots Sponsor- Old Gates Farm.
I have enjoyed my visits to Kris’ Blog: Life on a Vermont Farmstead– over the years. She has a very hardworking family and I admire them (and think their family photos in this post are just too sweet for words.) I think Kris is an amazing knitter and I love her beautiful farm photography on the greeting cards in their shop. They sell what they produce on their farm at a local market and are now offering some of that farm goodness online as well. I loved what Kris says on their Etsy’s About Page:
“Our family of 6 lives on a small farmstead in Vermont where we raise pastured meats and eggs, veggies and bottle our own wood-fired maple syrup. We’re a little homestead that’s slowly grown to make our humble living from our farm.
I started this shop as a fun outlet for my knitting, dyeing and sewing… it’s morphed into a spot for me to sell our handmade soaps, farm photography and Adam’s maple syrup. Together, we work to provide our community with products made with love on our farm–now we can do that with our etsy community as well!”

As well as their blog, you can stay in touch with Old Gates Farm on Facebook.
I’ll let Kris tell you more:
…………………………………………………………
Where does your name come from?
Kris: The name Old Gates Farm comes from the family who owned this farm from 1907 to 1988. When we first moved to the farm, we had many locals and neighbors stop by to tell us about the “old Gates Farm”. Clarence, whose father bought the farm in 1907, was a real homesteader…growing most of his food, raising strawberries and gladiolas for sale and always welcoming neighbors to the farm. After hearing so many stories about the “old Gates Farm”, we thought it was the perfect name.
Tell us a little about yourself and your business.
Kris: We are a family of 6 who started care-taking our farm in 2003. We bought the farm in 2008 and additional acres in 2009 and have been slowly expanding what we grow and produce. Our original goal, 10 years ago, was to grow as much of our own food as we could and each year we have a little more to share with our community through farmers’ markets, a farmshare and etsy.
Which products do you personally use most?
Kris: We definitely use a lot of our syrup! We also enjoy our grain mix as waffles and pancakes and everyone sports a lot of woolie attire during the cold Vermont winters.
Kris: We love working for ourselves, enjoying the food we produce, having our children work and learn with us, feeling blessed with our simple lifestyle.
Kris: A big dream for us is for our kids to love this lifestyle enough to want stay a part of the farm as they grow! We love to imagine creative ways to expand what we do to include them more and more as they grow up!
