Words don’t express how happy I am that it’s sunny today. I love Oregon and I love the climate here, but the rain has been getting to me lately. I think I got spoiled by that warm, sunny stretch and I wanted more. It’s been day after day of pouring rain lately. I like going outside and getting fresh air every day, it’s so important. But I didn’t feel like going out when it was pouring. Bracken and I took trips out to the chicken coop and the greenhouse (and even the woodshed.) That way we could still feel like we could be getting outside without being thoroughly drenched. One day we spent quite a long time in the coop, listening to the rain as it pounded on the metal roof. Bracken was entertained by pouring grit for the chickens from one container to another. I was amazed (and grateful) at how long he was content doing that because I wanted a break from the house for a bit. Yesterday the pouring rain stopped and I photographed a basket of new buttons I had been waiting to take pictures of. We came back inside and it immediately started raining again. I felt so lucky I got all my pictures finished. The overcast lighting was actually really good for button photography. Then, the rain stopped again and we were all drawn outside in the evening. We were itching to work in the garden and thought we’d take advantage of the break in the rain to get some weeding done. We weeded around some of the blueberry plants and got a lot accomplished. Jeff did some weed-eating and mowing. Then we started working on a new plant bed. We were all so happy to be outside in the yard again that we didn’t pay any attention to time, even though we knew it was getting late. By the time we came inside, it was 8:15! Past Bracken’s bedtime. We ate a late dinner and had a late bedtime and were really glad we did that.
Sometimes it seems my mood corresponds with how much time I spend outside. The more time I spend in nature, the happier I am. Of course I enjoy those cozy winter days by the woodstove too. But being outside is truly the best.
Today, when Bracken woke up and saw there was sunshine outside he said “Yay!” Exactly how I felt. To see blue skies again! To feel the warmth! Yes, the sun is so very appreciated here today.

Tomorrow we will be at the Saturday Market in Eugene, in booth 350. You can enjoy beautiful weather (looks that way), inspiring handmade art, fun music, and the colorful farmer’s market filled with delicious bounty. It’s a wonderful market and we feel thankful to have it nearby!
Jeff has been really “busting it” this week, as he says, so we have lots of new things for our booth.
P.S. Below are some pictures I took over the winter and meant to post. They are a custom wooden sign that Jeff carved. Bracken had just woken up from a nap and wanted to be held by dada, so he joined the picture too. Come back by tomorrow and I’ll tell you what Enchanted Cedar is!
(I’ve got a post ready to publish before we head out the door for market in the morning.)
Have a great weekend everybody!
