During our weekly Waldorf classes, we work on handwork projects while the children play. During our winter session we made moonbabies. (That was such a fun project and I still smile whenever I look at our little moonbaby hanging on our bedroom wall.) For spring session, we started making little Waldorf dolls, in particular root children. They were inspired by the book: The Root Children. I haven’t read it, but our teacher flipped through the pages and told us a little about it during snack time today. It looks like such a sweet story. I showed a peek of the dolls in progress last week. I wanted to show you pictures of the finished dolls, they were all so unique, but by the time I went to take pictures of them, most people had put theirs away to take home. Below are a few that were still in the basket. I brought them all over to the window to photograph them.
For my spring doll, I started with a light blue body. I added brown wool hair and added a flower hat, a little white daisy with a bright yellow center. It took many classes for us to finish these little dolls.
After adding her flower hat, this doll didn’t seem complete. I was going to add some white silk wings, but then I saw some green leaf wings someone had made and they looked like the perfect thing. I stitched along the middle of the leaves and then attached them.
A view of her daisy hat.
Bracken loves our little spring daisy doll. I think she’ll join his other favorites. (Hootie, Henry, and Baby.)
Adorable ladybug doll.
Look at the antennas.
This sweet doll inspired me to make leaf wings.
And of course I love the bright yellow flower hat with the green stem.
Looks like a sunflower doll to me.
A bee doll with a cap and some more flower dolls.
I love working on our handwork projects each week. Today was our last day of spring session at the school. Next week we are all meeting at a park, which will be our last official day of the spring session. There is a break for the summer, which is actually nice since it’s such a busy time for us. The classes will start up again in the fall for fall session. I’m looking forward to seeing what handwork project we’ll make then!
