…Knitting…
I finished Bracken’s slippers! I was wise enough not to bring them along to knit during our market day because it’s hard to concentrate on reading patterns during our busy days there. I did work on them during our car rides though. Sometimes I can concentrate on following knitting patterns while we’re driving and other times not so much. I finished Bracken’s first slipper and it didn’t look quite right. I started knitting the second slipper and then I realized that I had made some bloopers on the first one. If they weren’t that noticeable or a big deal, I would have left the first one as it was. But that wasn’t the case. I ripped the first one out and knit it over again. Much better! I spent Bracken’s naps, yesterday and today, knitting. It felt like a total luxury since nap times are usually needed to get things done (things other than knitting.) It was really a treat and knitting is just so soothing to the nerves. I finished the second slipper just as Bracken awoke today.
I love the color combination on these slippers! I think brown and light blue pair so well together. The lovely yarn is from our friends at Timberwolf Farm. (The brown is the natural color and the blue was dyed with woad from their garden.) As I mentioned last week, the pattern is called Simple Slippers by Elizabeth Murphy. You can find my Ravelry notes here. These slippers would be very fun to knit in a baby size. I’m glad I went up to the 3T size for Bracken. I was going to save them for his birthday, but they fit him right now and he loves them.
…Reading…
I just started reading ‘You Are Your Child’s First Teacher’ by Rahima Baldwin Dancy. Thanks to quite a few of you readers who recommended it to me, and then our Waldorf teacher recommended it… and when a book pops up in my life again and again, it’s usually one I’m meant to read. Honestly, I was a little intimidated by the size since it takes me awhile to get through a book these days. It’s not really that thick, but any books seem thick these days, if you know what I mean. But I’m glad I’m reading it. I’m enjoying learning more about Waldorf philosophy and more about children’s development. As an exhausted mama of an energetic toddler, I am open to learning new ways to bring more peace and balance to all of us.
How about you? Knitting? Reading?
