Well, the harvests are growing. This morning we harvested more summer squash and cucumbers, a hand full of green beans, and our first (tiny) patty pan squash. (Calendula flowers added by Bracken.) I didn’t even head towards the celery or greens, the basket was already overflowing. We planted our runner beans late this year, so we weren’t sure if we would be getting any, we’re so glad we are! Usually they come back on their own each year so we didn’t bother planting any, but when we realized they weren’t coming up, Jeff planted our favorite beans right away.
It’s a good thing our friend Mary Lou said on the phone yesterday that her favorite is “yellow crookneck squash” because I will be bringing her some when I see her on Sunday. We’re making pickles with the cucumbers. (I’m planning on sharing a few favorite recipes soon.) We want to dehydrate our extra zucchini to make “zucchini chips”, but our dehydrator has been broken for quite awhile. Jeff has plans to make one.
Bracken told me he wanted to put overalls on “like dada.” Then he put a cucumber and then a squash in his overall pocket. They barely fit. It cracked me up.
Wanted to pop by to say that we are not going to market tomorrow. I’m getting ready for our trip: packing, finishing laundry, and all that. Tomorrow we’ll be running errands. Bracken and I leave early early Wednesday morning. Jeff will be staying home: keeping the business running, watering the garden, and caring for the chickens. I hadn’t used my suitcase in so long it needed some serious dusting! It will feel good to put it to use again.
