Tell us a little about yourself and your business.

Kris: We are a family of six living simply on our small Vermont farmstead. Our goal almost 10 years ago, was to produce as much of our food as we could…over the years we’ve added animals, acres and babies to the mix and now can provide our local community with pastured pork and eggs, fresh veggies, raw milk, wood-fired maple syrup and crafts! Etsy has been a fun way to sell our syrup and crafts to our online community as well!

What is your workspace like for syrup-making?

Kris: We converted an old shed (then chicken coop then garage) into a sugarhouse! After years of tapping and selling our sap to local sugar-makers, we finally bought our own little (2×6′) evaporator in 2011. This is our syrup workspace in February and March. It’s a family run set-up…the kids help tap the trees, gather the sap, and we spend hours in the sugarhouse boiling it down to delicious syrup (lots of picnic dinners during sugaring season). The syrup is then bottled right in our kitchen.

What do you love about what you do?

Kris: It’s not always easy on the farm…we have times when crops do poorly or we lose an animal and have to rethink what we are doing. But we love working as a family and making our humble living together doing something we care about. And we enjoy the wonderful things that our farm provides all year long! Sugaring season is a special time of year on the farm when we welcome spring, and we love being able to sell our syrup to others through etsy!
