Our weekend was one big, long storm. Jeff took this picture of our wheelbarrow today, it was almost completely full! As you can see, we got a lot of rain! It was still pouring buckets today, but I think the storms are mostly over for the time being. I’m glad about that because it’s harder to relax and sleep at night with storms going on (we’re in the forest with large trees all around.) I sure loved the sound of the thunder though. (The thunder here sounds pretty wimpy compared to thunder in the Midwest, but I’ll take what I can get.)
Bracken was excited about this cucumber he found with Jeff in the garden. We pulled most of our cucumber plants up, so this was a welcome find. The variety is called Lemon Cucumber and it’s really good.
We’ve been going outside in bits here and there when there’s a break in the rain or it slows down (we get soaked through when we’re out in the downpour for even a moment.) Mostly we’ve been inside.
I noticed yesterday that we were missing a chicken. I kept expecting it to turn up today, thinking it was in the lower yard ranging around and that it would make it’s way black to the flock. Hmm… wonder where our missing chicken is? It’s strange to have one disappear without a trace. We have some neighborhood cats that have been coming around. Would they bother a (nearly) full grown chicken? I think our chickens are too big for a hawk to bother, but Jeff said an eagle might go after one. At this point, it’s still a mystery. And I haven’t given up the hope that it will suddenly show up.
