…Joining Ginny’s YarnAlong, sharing what I’m knitting and reading…

…Knitting…
We have a friend who is a beekeeper and she just had her baby girl in the beginning of February. We made plans to meet up with her and buy some beeswax (to filter and pour more molds for the shop) and I knew I wanted to finish a little knitting project before we saw her. I had some beautiful yellow yarn that I had been saving, purchased from our friends at Timberwolf Farm. Ingeborg had dyed it with marigolds from her garden and to say that I love the color is an understatement. I really, really love the color. It’s so bright and cheery. When I found this pattern (& here on Ravelry) for the Baby Bumble Hat, I finally knew what I was going to make with that yellow yarn. Yes, I think that yarn was destined to become this little beehive hat. I put the final touches on it during our car ride to town yesterday: two honeybee buttons that Jeff made for me, and that made it complete. I took some pictures of it when we got out of the car. Then, at another stop, the sun came out and we saw some beautiful crocuses blooming. No matter we were in a parking lot, I brought the finished hat over to take some pictures. And guess what Bracken and I saw? The very first bees we had seen this year, gathering pollen in the crocuses. (You can see one in the second to last picture.) It seemed very fitting to see the first bees of the season on the very day I finished the hat. I’m really looking forward to surprising them with this hat. Our friend absolutely adores everything with bees on it and having to do with bees, so I think it’s just the thing.
…Reading…
I’ve been reading a few pages of ‘Gut and Psychology Syndrome’ by Natasha Campbell McBride, here and there, while I lay next to Bracken on the couch and wait for him to fall asleep for his nap each day. It may take awhile for me to finish it, but I’m making progress bit by bit. It’s probably the third time I’ve read it. The first time Bracken was a newborn baby and it felt like a miracle for our family. We were so overwhelmed and confused by food allergies and how sensitive Bracken was after nursing when I had eaten certain things. Reading Natasha’s book was like a breath of fresh air with some much-needed answers to our family’s questions. I was fascinated to learn so much about the digestive system and how to heal it. To learn which foods fed the pathogenic bacteria and which ones didn’t. I think I read the book again at some point. But it’s been awhile. Lately, I’ve been feeling the urge to visit her book once again. I feel like I can more fully understand it now and have more clarity. (Being a sleep deprived new mom can make it hard to comprehend all the information.) I’m understanding the information in a whole new way. Puzzle pieces are fitting together, if that makes any sense. I kid you not: if I had the money to buy a bunch of copies of this book, I would pass them out and give them to everyone. That’s how important I feel this book is.
How about you?
