When asked what we were up to over the weekend, my answer is that we were completely immersed in: Button Land. Button Land? Yep. That’s the phrase that came to mind, as we’ve been surrounded by buttons and our daily doings have been revolving around them. (I do hope you enjoy button posts, since I find myself writing about them in this space quite often, as making buttons is such a big part of our life.) Jeff spent two days straight, over the weekend, at his sanding machine. I don’t even know how a person can be on their feet for that long, but somehow he did it. He’s been creating so fast and I’ve been trying to keep up with him (and the house and other things at the same time) by getting all the buttonholes marked for him to drill, tying buttons on cards, photographing them, and posting them in the shop. 

Above you can see a new organizational system we discovered. I wrote before about organizing buttons on thrifted cookie sheets and I still do that. Now we discovered thrifted muffin tins. Before, I was the one tying all the buttons on cards, but we got to a point where I could hardly keep up. At the same time, Jeff needed to give his body a break from standing at his machine for long hours and give his hands a break from sanding, carving, and woodburning all the time. So, at a time I needed some help, he needed a project that gave his body a rest. He started helping put buttons on cards. I arranged them in families, as I did before, only this time I put them in muffin tins and handed them off to Jeff. That way they were nicely arranged, ready to go on cards. We’re both tying them on cards now and together we’re getting the job done much faster.

 Last week we made new button cards. Since adding fabric buttons to the shop, we needed new button cards that didn’t say: Handmade Wooden Buttons across the top on the front. We had been talking about changing it to: Handmade Artisan Buttons, anyway. Before, our button cards had a spot in the upper right corner that said “Set of:” where we could write the number next to it. Originally, we thought it would make it easier for people to find what they were looking for when they were flipping through the button cards in our market booth, but then later we didn’t feel it was really necessary. So we decided to leave that part off the new cards, and we’re glad we did. We also needed to change the write-up on the backside of the cards, since it talked all about the process our wooden buttons went through. It said:

We liked the write-up and wanted to let people know a bit about what went into the making of the buttons they were holding in their hands, but needed to change it to work for our other buttons. The backs on our new buttons cards look like this:

We really want to encourage people to share their projects using Wooly Moss Roots Buttons, so we included a link to our group on Ravelry. (There are 81 beautiful projects posted right now in the group!) The back sides of the new cards are simpler and have the links we wanted to include. We decided we like them better and will start using them for all our buttons in the future. However, we still have a bunch of the original cards left, so we’ll be using those up for the wooden buttons for quite some time.
As soon as we got the new button cards, I got busy making fabric buttons. Here are a few I posted in the shop:

Fun, fun, fun! I’m loving creating fabric buttons in all different colors and prints, and we have many more on the way. Today we had a town day. And when we came home? I found myself photographing buttons while Jeff was oiling some new ones. As soon as we returned home, we were back in Button Land.

 It’s a place we really like, as you can see.
