On the sponsorship post for January I used the snow banner from last winter. No, we don’t have any snow right now, but Bracken has certainly been hoping for some. He’s been checking out the window for snow every morning since probably early December. When snow didn’t come on Christmas morning he was so disappointed and then explained that he didn’t think we could celebrate Christmas unless there was snow outside. I don’t know how he got that idea. (I guess since I told him Christmas comes in the winter and he associates winter with snow even though we don’t get all that much of it where we are.) I assured him that we could still celebrate.
I’ve been packing up ornaments and the few holiday decorations I bring out each year. As I was organizing the holiday cards from previous years to fit in the tub a little better, I found a note I wrote to Santa when I was a child! I know I’ve seen it before, since I had it in there, but I had forgotten all about it and the words made me laugh. On the front it reads: ‘Dear Santa, Please can you give me’ and on the back it reads: ‘wedding dress, wedding ring, wedding barbie show, ken doll, makeup, teddy bear, pony, horse. Love, Taryn’
After typing this I realize I probably should have taken a picture of the back side too, it was fun to see. I have no idea how old I was when I wrote this and I don’t remember writing it. I don’t know what a wedding barbie show is, but I could have misread it, at first I thought it said wedding barbie house. In a newspaper from a small nearby town, they publish letters to Santa from children at the school there every year. Jeff usually reads them aloud in our house and it’s something we love and look forward to every year. I love children’s writing and art and those letters are always such a wonderful mixture of heartwarming and hilarious. We didn’t read them this year, we were so busy I think today was the first day Jeff had even read a newspaper in quite some time. Maybe a neighbor kept a copy? Oh, and before I forget:
Happy New Year!
