…Knitting…
Bracken wore the owl vest that I knitted him for Christmas on our first day back to Rainbow Bridge, which seemed fitting. As I tried it on him the first time, I wished I would have used a looser cast-off method because it’s too tight around the bottom. Also, the whole thing is too snug. I thought he’d get a lot more wear out of it. Perhaps I could get it wet and stretch it out a bit? We’ll see. The wool yarn is from our friends at Timberwolf Farm. I love the natural grey color from their sheep Carlchen. Jeff made the buttons for the eyes for me in reclaimed mountain mahogany wood. I love the warm reddish hue of that wood and I really like the way it pairs with the grey colored yarn.
The other thing I would change other than loosening up the cast off edge, would be moving the owl on the front a bit higher, but I think overall the vest turned out pretty cute! Bracken has an owl vest to go with his owl hat now (although his owl hat is getting small on him as you can see.) I used the same owl pattern as on his hat (adjustments can be found on my Ravelry page.)
…Reading…
I’m still reading my sewing books that I mentioned in my last few YarnAlongs. It’s time for me to make copies of a bunch of the patterns, after looking through all of them and deciding which patterns I want to make. I have yet to make a pattern from either book, but they did inspire me to do some sewing and I sewed a pillow for a housewarming gift and a blanket for Bracken’s bed, which was very satisfying.
How about you? Knitting? Reading?
I just love, love, love this vest on sweet little boy. Just perfect 🙂 Greeting from Iceland.
What an adorable vest! The owl is too cute. I think the placement is just fine, but I can see that a little bit higher would be nice too.
I’d love to have you link up at my weekly Yarn Fanatic Party! http://philwife.blogspot.com/2015/01/yarn-fanatic-party-19.html
I think it turned out beautiful! I like the owl just where it’s at and the big eyes are perfect 🙂
