Last year we planted raspberries for the first time. I love raspberries. We got a few berries to enjoy in our first year, not many, but honestly even a single berry would have excited us. Bracken and I have enjoyed visiting the raspberries on our daily walks throughout the winter. Last week we got the raspberry patch weeded. (We need to put barriers around the bed or they are going to take over and spread all over the place.) We’ve all been admiring the raspberries covered in green leaves, looking so healthy and full of life. When I walked by with my camera, I couldn’t help but take picture after picture. That tends to happen to me sometimes as you’ve surely noticed here. This fresh green all over our raspberries is such a beautiful sight to me. After so many years of harvesting raspberries at a neighbor’s farm and purchasing them from local farms, the idea of having them in our own backyard…. well, it’s a pretty nice thought.
Anything you are particularly excited about growing in your yard this year?

My grapevine! I planted it last year and got 2 grapes. I hope that it flourishes and grows this year! Also, I planted a peach tree and it looks like it survived the winter because it is beginning to bud!

At this point, anything green looks good to me! It’s a muddy mess right now and more rain the rest of the week. But once it’s dry enough, I am out there planting food. I am so ready to get it started.
Although I am not a fan of raspberries, your plants look good. I can handle them without all those big seeds. But blueberries are my favorite. I let my sheep in my yard a few months ago and they got a few of my blueberry bushes chewed down a bit. I hope they’ll be ok. I should start seeing green on them soon.

Oo that will be so nice in the summer! Squirrels decimated our tomatoes and peppers in less than two days when we moved here last Summer. They left our herbs well alone, though, so we’re planting ALL THE BASIL. Pesto forever.
