…Joining Ginny’s YarnAlong, sharing what I’m knitting and reading…
I saw Andee’s Abalone and loved it. I’d been wanting to knit something that we could photograph our handmade shawl pins on, to post in the shop. After seeing her project, it looked like the perfect thing for that. (Plus I’ll get to wear and enjoy it too, of course. So much knitting for me lately, which feels like such a treat.) The yarn came from Black Sheep Gathering last year. It’s handspun and has a beautiful variety of natural colors. Bracken saw me smelling it and saying how much I liked the smell (that comforting scent of sheep) and now he comes over to sniff my knitting regularly.
I wrote recently that I was happy Bracken likes chapter books now and we’ve really been on a roll with them. It started with Jeff reading ‘The World of Pooh’ to him. At the time I thought he might be too young for it to keep his interest because there weren’t as many pictures as he was used to, but he loved it. Awhile after they had finished it, Bracken asked me to read it to him and we usually went through a chapter each night before bed. Then we started ‘Little House in the Big Woods’. We just finished both of those books. Now Jeff is currently reading ‘The Children of Noisy Village’ each night before bed. We’re all enjoying it. I came across it some time ago and felt drawn to it, what a delightful find it’s turned out to be. Any favorite children’s chapter books you’d recommend?
How about you? Knitting? Reading?
What about Mr Popper’s Penguins or Peter Pan?
I’ve found this site: http://www.whatdowedoallday.com/books-for-kids has some great book ideas for kids.
Thank you for the link, that looks like a great resource! Jeff has been reading us ‘Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens.’ We love it. Never heard of Mr. Popper’s Penguins, will check it out.
I assure you- every astrid lindgren book will be a great experience- I love all of them and re-re-re-read them even as an adult – not sure what they’re all called in English as we’re reading them in German…but I started reading “Holidays on Saltkrokan” to my daughter when she was just a few weeks old- we’ve finished it by now and continued with pippiiii- who should be every child’s best friend some time 🙂
I’m sure Bracken would love Michel (might be called differently in English) from Lönneberga – it’s about little boy (who I imagine could look just like Bracken) who’s aaaalways up to something, even if he doesn’t want to 🙂 he’s cheeky but not hurting anyone and the chapters have a good length- only problem will be: he won’t want you to stop reading after one chapter 😉
Thank you!! I will keep all of those in mind. Pippi was next on the list. I’m glad to know she other other books to enjoy as well. 🙂
Our library has the Children of noisy village video and it’s excellent too! Perhaps the Pippi Longstocking books are next, they’re also by Astrid Lindgren.
Didn’t know there was a video, good to know! Pippi Longstocking is on our list next. 🙂
Ha, I just blogged about little Houses new site this morning! I have been gardening and gardening and well… gardening. 🙂
Thanks for telling me they have a new site! 🙂
How wonderful that Bracken is appreciating the longer stories now. When I was little I LOVED the Paul Bunyon stories and any of the tall tales like Pecos Bill (Who saddled up a tornado and cut the Grand Canyon 🙂 ) . Might check the library for Paul Bunyon specifically, or books of Tall Tales generally. I think he would love them.
Putting that on the list. Thanks for the great suggestion!
