…Knitting…
I got my Hermione Hearts Ron pattern out again, to cast on one for my sister. With mine, I cast on the way I normally do. In the pattern it suggests the Italian Tubular Cast On to give a stretchy and pretty edge, so I thought I would do that for my sister’s hat. I searched for a video on youtube to teach me and then meant to watch it for probably a week, not finding the time to set aside to learning a new technique (in peace and quiet where I could concentrate.) When I finally watched it, I decided to just stick with a regular long-tail cast on because that would give it a stretchy edge as well. (And my brain was much more enthusiastic about that method for the time being!) Now I’m cast on and ready to go. Realistically, I realize that I need to keep my projects pretty simple if they are going to happen.
…Reading…
Our family is loving ‘Farmer Boy’. Jeff and I take turns reading a chapter aloud before bed (depending on who is more tired that night.) We read other stories in between or sometimes just make up stories at bedtime, so this one has been lasting us for quite awhile. Some weeks we might read a chapter a week. I like savoring it this way, so we can enjoy it longer.
How about you? Knitting? Reading?
What an interesting read. I read a few of those when I was growing up but more watched the show. There’s a book out about a woman who was an avid fan of the Wilder books. It is called The Wilder Life. I thought that it was going to be more about homesteading, but instead it is about her strange fascination with everything Laura. It’s kinda funny.
I’m visiting from Yarn Along. Click my link to read what I wrote about.
I love farmer boy. I will have to get it out and read it with Josh. Memories 🙂
I LOVE the little house books! I have an old boxed set of them in paperback and they have been read so many times that they are starting to fall apart. Lucky me -I live an easy drive from the home where Laura and Almanzo settled in Missouri. It’s fascinating to visit and see. They were very short and it’s fun to see the kitchen counters all lowered several inches to accommodate Laura’s height.
very cute hat pattern! somehow i’ve missed that one…..it’s queued!
Is Farmer Boy the one that’s about Alonzo’s growing up years? My son and I read through all of those and the one about Alonzo’s boyhood always made me so hungry to read. His mother was always making something that sounded soooo good I could hardly contain myself. One of her things to make was apples and onions and I always wondered exactly how that recipe might go and what the proportions of apples and onions would be. I don’t remember any of the other concoctions that she came up with but they must have all been very well described for me to have reacted so.
Yes, it’s the one about Almanzo. And I can totally relate to getting really hungry when I read it!! They make so much delicious sounding food. I was also curious about the apples and onions. Let me know if you try it. 🙂
