For some reason, this year Father’s Day made me think of this little necklace from my childhood, one stashed away in my treasure box that I hadn’t thought about for many years. That’s my dad, my younger sister, and I. That picture makes me smile. My sister and I are wearing handmade dresses that my Grandma Baker sewed for us and I wonder if she did our hair as well because it looks so, well, tidy. At my dad’s we often picked out our own outfits, which were pretty wild sometimes, and liked the freedom to do our own hairstyles on occasion as well. Remember that dad? We didn’t leave him out of the fun, though, and liked to decorate his hair with barrettes too. He was such a good sport.
I’m grateful for my dad. For his humor, his friendliness, and so much more. On Father’s Day I thought of my dad. And I thought of other dads as well. I thought of my mom who misses her dad and I thought of Jeff who misses his dad too. I thought about how grateful I am that Bracken has Jeff for his father.
How was your Father’s Day and Summer Solstice? We spent ours at the last day of the show, but Bracken and I managed to do a few surprises for Jeff, which made him really happy. I’ll be back with pictures from the Black Sheep Gathering tomorrow, but just wanted to come by and say Happy (belated) Father’s Day to all you dads out there!
Wow! OK, so not only do we have the same first name, but, I kid you not, I also have that same exact necklace from my childhood (with a picture of my family in it, of course!). Too funny.
That is funny! I bet if we got together we’d discover even more similarities! 🙂
We got in a muddle this year and did it a week early!! This year was tough, my first Father’s day without my Dad but happy as well as we believe he is with Jesus. x
We did minimal this year, it kind of snuck up on me. No cards, no gift. I sent my father a text (which is impersonal, but it works for our relationship). My husband was gaming, he got to debut new miniatures and see friends who were up to visit so he got a gift I couldn’t wrap, and I’m ok with that.
